The most striking celebrity looks at the World Cup

With America as the host, this World Cup is no longer just about what happens on the field. In typical American style, halftime shows take place, the stands are filled with celebrities, and there is a lot of focus on the fan experience and hospitality. During the Netherlands-Japan match in Texas, even the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders came to set the mood in the stadium. Last Thursday, the first match took place, Mexico-South Africa in Mexico City. Before the kickoff, Shakira, Tyla, Andrea Bocelli, and David Guetta performed. Here are the fashion highlights so far:
Tyla
Tyla not only performed in Mexico but also at the American opening ceremony the next day. In Mexico, the South African singer wore a dress in the colors of her home country's flag, designed by English designer Ellie Misner. In Los Angeles, she shared the stage with rapper Future, and especially for the occasion, Louis Vuitton designed American sportswear looks for them.

Shakira
Just like in 2010, when ‘Waka Waka’ was heard everywhere, the singer opened the World Cup with a swing again. Together with Burna Boy, she sang one of this year's official songs “Dai Dai,” in a custom Off-White outfit, consisting of a yellow mesh bodysuit, with an asymmetrical skirt made from football shirts.

Salma Hayek
For the Mexican actress, this was a home game where she got to deliver the welcome speech, in a suit by Gucci. Salma’s husband, François-Henri Pinault, is the CEO of Kering, the company that owns Gucci. As the hostess, she led the Parade of Nations and welcomed the 48 participating countries on stage. The red suit was combined with a floral print blouse with a red and green striped bow and cuffs. These colors are of course not only characteristic of Gucci, but they are also the colors of Mexico.

Burna Boy
Fully dressed in denim, Burna Boy performed with Shakira. He opted for a look from the fall collection of local Mexican designer Campillo. The jacket and pants featured silver eagle embellishments, one of Mexico’s national symbols. His sunglasses are the 1.0 Millionaire Sunglasses from Louis Vuitton.

Katy Perry
This was definitely the most striking look so far. Katy Perry sparkled in a silver Stella McCartney dress from the fall collection of 2026 during her performance at the opening ceremony in Los Angeles. The halter dress ended in a long skirt of reflective strands that moved as she jumped. Underneath, she wore silver Aquazzura Sea Wave Wedge Sandals, metallic heels with a PVC toe. She sang together with young Norwegian singer Tius the song “Wonder.”.

Barbara Palvin and Dylan Sprouse
The Sprouses were present at the match VS-Paraguay, both dressed entirely in black. Barbara wore a black zip jacket, with the bottom part left open to show her baby bump, and a long black maxi skirt. As accessories, she wore orange sunglasses, a Chrome Hearts necklace, and a black Kurt Geiger ‘Kurt Sling Bag.’.

Lisa
The K-Pop singer released the World Cup song ‘Goals’ together with Anitta and Rema, and they performed the song in Los Angeles. Zana Bayne, a local fashion designer, created a two-piece white ensemble with matching gloves. The outfit featured buckles and lace closures and was adorned with Swarovski crystals. Designer L.A. Roxx made a matching jacket, and she wore white gladiator boots with a platform.

Anitta
Anitta matched Lisa with a completely white look made by a standout designer: H&M. Under the oversized white cape with a hood, she wore a white halter crop top and cargo pants with a large belt, adorned with rhinestones.

Paris Hilton
America’s most famous socialite was of course not to be missed, with a bedazzled Team USA shirt and Chanel bag. She combines them with ‘The Amazing Embellished Jean’ from Alice + Olivia, finished with star-shaped cut-outs.

Whether all the outfits were equally stylish is still up for debate. But in a sea of people, you might have to dress this over the top to steal the show. I’m curious which celebrities we will see in the stands during the World Cup.
