This is how you stay warm and stylish: this is the #1 styling trick during CFW

Copenhagen Fashion Week

Sometimes the best styling ideas don't come from being thought out, but because they are necessary. Just look at Copenhagen Fashion Week from last week. It was cold, there was snow, and the weather was typically Scandinavian unpredictable. And that exactly led to the styling hack we now see everywhere: wearing two looks on top of each other. Sounds crazy, but it looked anything but. Not simple layers, but really outfit on outfit. Think: blazer over denim jacket, coat over coat, skirt over pants. Warm? Extremely. Fashion? More than ever.

What do we mean by two looks on top of each other?

This is not a classic ‘layering story’ where you wear a tank top with a lace edge under a sweater. Nope, this really takes it a step further. The idea: you style two complete outfits together into one look. Think of a sweater under a dress and then over pants, finished with, yes, another coat on top and of course a scarf or matching hat. It can be visible that it’s a lot; that’s exactly the charm of this trend.

Why this outfit formula works so well

Think: functional. Staying warm without looking practical is all a fashion person wants. That, combined with the statement, the more layers, the more interesting your outfit, and the creativity where you can suddenly combine items you normally wouldn’t wear together surprisingly well, makes this what to wear option during the coldest days of the year a real success formula.

And this is how you try this trend yourself, without losing your sense of style

Start with what you already have
You don’t need to buy anything new for this. Grab two jackets or blazers that differ in color or material but can go together. Contrast = key.

Keep one layer calm
Let one item be the base (for example, a simple blazer or coat) and make the other layer more striking.

Play with lengths
Short over long almost always works well. A cropped jacket over a long coat or blazer over a trench, tie another layer of sweater over your shoulders and you’ve completely captured that Copenhagen vibe.

Keep your accessories simple
Because your outfit is already ‘busy’ enough, keep your shoes and bag calm. Think: loafers, boots, sneakers + a matching bag.

The winter cold proves to us, thanks to the Copenhagen cool girls, that style doesn’t have to come at the expense of comfort. Two looks on top of each other might take some getting used to, but it’s surprisingly easy to apply and perfect for snow on the way, right?
