This is the sneaker fashion of 2026

The Dutch lions have officially kicked off today, which means a month full of nerve-wracking matches, bustling terraces, and singing the Wilhelmus at the top of your lungs with a hefty dose of Dutch pride. Whether you follow every match on the edge of your seat, organize a football night with friends, or secretly watch alone for the handsome men in Orange: the World Cup always brings a certain atmosphere with it. And this year, we see that atmosphere not only on the field but also in the fashion world.

Where we previously grabbed a football shirt en masse, the football world has now also conquered our shoe closets. In recent months, we are increasingly seeing sneakers inspired by classic football and indoor shoes from the 2000s. Think of sleek silhouettes, retro details, and models that seem to have just come off the training field. The now-classic Adidas Samba was one of the first sneakers to bridge the gap between football and fashion, but now models like the Adidas F50, Nike Total 90, and Puma Speedcat have also found their way into the street scene.

That this trend is so popular is not surprising. Celebrities like Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber, and Emily Ratajkowski have been spotted on the streets in retro sports sneakers recently. I am a big fan of the combination of a girly outfit with tough sneakers. A slip dress or balloon skirt with a pair of sporty sneakers underneath and you're already ahead 1-0. The winning combination.

So whether you're enjoying yourself in front of the television this month, still juggling a ball in the garden, or just looking for a sneaker that perfectly fits within the sporty trend of the moment: 3, 2, 1… here they are.
