This crazy trick works like a charm against migraines

Almost everyone has experienced a bit of a headache at some point. You know, when you've had a long day and come home overstimulated from your colleague Sasja who has been chatting your ear off all day. Then you take a paracetamol, lie down for a bit, and you can go on. Right? Yes, but some of us suffer from more than just an innocent headache. For them, it feels like their head is going to explode. All the lights must be off, and even the smell of yesterday's brie that is slightly coming from the fridge is too much. Do you recognize this? Then I have good news: there is a crazy trick that surprisingly works against your terrible experience. All you need is a hair clip.

Yes. Seriously: a hair clip. You probably have one lying around in your junk drawer or bag. We're not going to try any tight hairstyles, so you don't have to worry about that. We're going to put the clip on your... eyebrow.

The doctor explains: why does a hair clip work against migraines

Huh, what? I was honestly surprised too. How can clamping a clip on your eyebrow help with migraines? A doctor explains it clearly for you: it's not rocket science, this is due to the nerves around your eye. These supraorbital nerves are the culprits when it comes to migraines. To reduce your pain, these nerves need to relax. That doesn't happen just like that; a distraction maneuver is needed. And what can you use for that? A hair clip.

By placing the teeth of the clip on your eyebrow, you distract your brain from the pain that the migraine gives you. The focus is on the ‘pain’ you get from the clip, which eventually reduces your hellish headache. According to Dr. Myro Figura this trick doesn't necessarily work as a medicine for everyone. It varies from person to person how much this helps, but it's definitely worth a try. Who knows if this will be the holy grail for you?

Does the clip trick not work? Then you can try this

Are you one of the unlucky ones and does that clip not help against the migraine? Then there are certainly other things you can try to dismantle that bomb in your head.

1. Get a migraine hat

When you're sick from the headache in bed, everything is probably too much. The light coming from under the door when your partner walks on the landing. The soft sound of that garbage truck driving past your window while you've already closed it. At such moments, it may be that cold is the only thing that helps you. Do you want to freeze your head? Then a migraine hat is your best friend. This is so cooling that it relieves your pain and helps you sleep better, so you can finally recover. And no: it doesn't make sense if you order one of those €5 hats from Temu. This is one of those cases: you might as well invest a lot in it. Just like a CHANEL bag, these hats only become more valuable. Not in money, but in power. A good hat will be your lifesaver. Which one is good? This is the favorite of Sheida Alhoei, a content creator who has been dealing with migraines for 23 years.

2. Use preventive botox

Now I'm not saying that you should just fill your whole head with fillers, but for many people, botox in your forehead works well to reduce migraine attacks. Because various muscles are permanently paralyzed, you experience less trouble. Oh, and you get the nice bonus of not having forehead wrinkles anymore. Win-win.

3. Stand with your feet in a warm basin

This is another one of those ‘crazy tricks’ that surprisingly works well. Does cold trigger your headache? Then warmth can be your salvation in need. Fill a basin with the hottest water possible (please, no boiling water. You don't want burns) and stand in it with bare feet. Why does this work? Simple: the heat causes the blood vessels in your feet to dilate. This pulls blood away from your head to get it to your feet, resulting in less blood in the blood vessels that could be causing your migraine. So just stand in it and let your feet do the hard work: before you know it, that pain disappears, just like Carrie when she ran away from Aiden in season 3.

4. Get a daith piercing

A piercing that helps against migraines? It certainly exists. There is a spot in your ear that is often the focal point during acupuncture for all that rumbling in your head. This spot, in the cartilage of your ear, is therefore the ideal place for a piercing. Instead of having needles poked in your ear every week, this piece of jewelry ensures that constant pressure is applied to that one pressure point. And yes... it can reduce your migraine. However, just like with these other tricks, it may not work for you.

Are you pulling your hair out from the pain? Then you might as well try these tricks. Maybe this is just what you needed. Please.
