This is why Love Is Blind Netherlands is not being filmed in its own country
Sunday brought the finale that I think had us all on the edge of our seats. Many plot twists and tears leading to surprising new love stories: the participants have experienced quite a lot in a year. But while we are fully engaged with all the drama and romance, there is one thing that might go unnoticed: the Love Is Blind pod phase was not filmed in the Netherlands. What actually goes on behind the scenes in the production of such a big show?
Where is Love Is Blind filmed and why?
The participants begin their adventure, of course, in the pods, the spaces where the men and women can talk to each other without seeing each other. The soundstages for the pods are located in the Swedish town of Strängnäs, which is about an hour outside of Stockholm. The Swedish version was the first European edition of Love Is Blind in 2024. Meanwhile, the pod phases of other European versions, including those from the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, France, and Italy, are also being filmed at the same location in Sweden. The same studio is therefore repeatedly used for participants from different countries. According to Netflix, more than 330 singles have participated in the experiment. The Danish version will be released in 2027. After the pod phase, the Dutch participants traveled to Zanzibar, to a resort that Marit wrote about. The engaged couples then returned to the Netherlands to live together in Utrecht and discover whether their love could withstand everyday life.
There were only two couples who actually made it to the altar, Yasemin and Miguel, and Mika and Jurriaan. For the weddings, Parc Broekhuizen was chosen, a country estate in Leersum known for its historical appearance.

How do the dates go?
The experiment starts with 30 singles, but a portion of the participants we have only seen in the background, as the focus is on those who eventually form couples. In the first days, the dates are short, lasting about 15 to 30 to 60 minutes. At a later stage, the dates last much longer, they can last up to 3 to 4 hours. According to creator Chris Coelen, couples can sometimes talk to each other until three in the morning. The entire pod phase lasts about 10 days in total.
The reason behind the famous golden wine glasses
In every episode of Love Is Blind, the famous golden wine glasses can be seen. They are not only a recognizable accessory for the show, but the glasses are there to assist with editing. Because you cannot see how much drink is in them, editors can more easily shorten conversations or splice scenes together, without a glass being full in one scene and almost empty in the next.
