5 tips for winter-ready skin
You have people that love the summer and you have those that, believe it or not, adore the winter. I’m just back from summer vacation so I think that says enough. I’m a lover of summer. Also beauty-wise. My skin is ten times smoother and brighter than usual, my hair has a natural beach look, healthy glow on the cheeks, and oh, those freckles and light tan are also great souvenirs. Let me fast forward into winter, skin is often dry, dryer, driest, with broken lips and a dull skin tone. Recognisable? Well, here are 5 tips to hopefully postpone your winter dip until the summer comes around again.
Cleansing
The weather changes much faster in winter than in summer, think snow, rain, hail and cold, so it’s vital to cleanse extremely well. All the weather changes influence your skin. You should choose a creamy cleanser, so it feeds the skin instead of drying it out. If you don’t cleanse, the dead skin cells will accumulate and you won’t get rid of dirt. The result is a very dry skin with spots. Which you don’t want. So cleanse.
Hydrate
Switch your lighter summer cream for a richer cream in the winter. If you hydrate well, your skin will not have the chance to develop that tired, dull look. You can keep a healthy and fresh radiance. That alone will help get you through your winter dip.
Oil
I just walked you through hydrating, which you can boost by using an oil. Now I can imagine that you prefer not to use it during the day, because your skin will feel oilier (by the way, always store it in in a warm place). However at night an oil can perform extra work on your skin. Allowing essential oils to be absorbed by the deepest layers of the skin and helping to restore the natural balance.
Fake Tan
I totally understand that you’d like to hang on to that summer colour. Me too. A sun-bed is not the only solution. It can supply you with that so called vitamin boost, but it’s not that great for the skin. It is far better to give yourself a face mask every week, cleanse well, scrub and then to apply a self-tanner. Far more beneficial and far better for the skin. Oh and it looks way more natural.
Fridge-ban
As soon as the sun disappears, we all run for the kitchen. I mean, I always imagine that a roomy jumper hides the pack of cookies that I gobbled down. You can’t do that it summer. More importantly. That pack of cookies will show on your skin. So eat healthily in winter too. Sweet potatoes and mangos both contain enough vitamin A to keep your skin happy and healthy.
