7 ways to survive autumn
Yes people, it’s official. Summer is over. I’m dearly hoping for a respite in the form of a long indian summer, but right now it’s raining, the traffic jams are back and lunch boxes need to be packed again (in my case). All reasons to want to stick your head under a duvet and not get back out until March 2015. Not really an option, so hereby: how to face autumn in 7 steps.
Stay inside. Good, easy way out but the perfect medicine to avoid depression. Go to your manager NOW (right NOW) and book a free day. I say book it for tomorrow. Trouble Tuesday, remember? My advice, get up on time, drag your duvet to the couch, binge on all your favourite mini-series’ and remind yourself what your colleagues are doing each and every hour. Believe me, it helps.
Create a holiday book. Since you have a free day anyway. Go to hema.nl or Apple or wherever you prefer. One hours work and you end up with a fabulous photo-book that reminds you of when the sun was still shining. I suggest making a mousepad from that photo of you lounging on a li-lo in the infinity pool, or hey why not wallpaper? Then just don’t look outside okay.
Feu de Bois from Dyptique. The absolute best scented candles out there and this one smells like a crackling fireplace. Burning it doesn’t seem right in the summer, but light it now and you’ll soon be happy it’s autumn.
Denial. When you get home from work totally drenched, close the curtains, turn the heating up to 25 degrees, put Café del Mar on Spotify, pull on your Missoni kaftan and make a yummy Mojito.
The checkered jacket from Isabel Marant. Or her tweed coat with leather belt, or the alpaca sweater. Actually anything Isabel Marant will do to get you in the autumn vibe.
Book your next vacation. Just like love, there is only one cure for when it’s over. A new one. Book it now. It’ll help you through each and every crash of thunder.
A brand new agenda. A lovely fresh work-slash-school-year evokes a certain something wonderful. Buy a new notebook and a crisp new agenda. Overview will become your new middle name this autumn. And don’t forget to quickly scribble in all your just booked holidays.
