Festival with a filter
Do you have Instagram? Facebook? Twitter? Or an internet connection in general? Then you must’ve already spotted Coachella’s photos. If we’d play Coachella bingo, you’d probably already cross out the following things:
- Ferris wheel
- Palm trees. If not sunset.
- Very tall, thin girls with bare midriffs
- Round sunglasses
- High waisted denim shorts
- Pool parties at huge villas
There are two Coachella weekends this year of which the first has just been held. The next one is from 18 to 20 April and for those who don’t have a clue what Coachella is, here’s a crash course. First of all, it’s a festival in the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. To be precise, the Coachella Valley (hence the title!). Which is why a million trillion celebs head to the club since the valley is but a hop and a skip away from movie star mecca L.A. Kate Bossworth, Vanessa Hudgens, Alessandra Ambrosio, all the Rich Kids, Chiara Ferragni, Shea Marie, Leonardo DiCaprio, Aaron Paul, Kendall Jenner, Paris Hilton and, of course, Lindsey Lohan. The film festival terrain is decorated with artworks, stylish tents, and, of course, The Ferris Wheel, which makes for very Instagram worthy pics. I had to laugh really loud when Instagram was offline last Saturday and Twitter got spammed with messages like “I think that everybody at Coachella is really confused about what to do now that Instagram’s down.”
You’d almost forget, but a lot of bands and artists go to Coachella. Last weekend’s lineup contains Bastille, Calvin Harris, Lana del Rey, Laurant Garnier (one of my personal favourites), Outkast, Pharrel Williams, and Solange Knowles (who was visited by her sister Beyoncé during her last performance which made the crowd go nuts).
For those who want to be present next year, you need to give generously (tickets are easily a couple of hundred dollars) and need to be quick; the tickets are usually sold out in three blinks of an eye. But who cares really? If you manage to get inside you’re at the coolest festival ever. Though do keep in mind to have an Instagram account otherwise why bother going? #Andthatsthetruth.
