HOLLAND’S FINEST

– Our top models in fashion land –

On Friday afternoon (music on, glass of ginger tea, yes it’s great, and some chocolate within hand reach), I might surf to models.com. Intern Janine follows everything over my shoulder and comments on everything we see because she eats, drinks, and breathes models. She knows the top 50 ranking by heart, just like I used to know the Top 40 music hits.

Dutch models at the top

Visiting our equivalent of the Top 40 is such a party. Not only because you see the nicest covers and the prettiest girls, but also because your Dutch heart will overflow with pride. Saskia de Brauw’s on number two. Incredibly special, but especially when you think of the fact that Saskia doesn’t want to change everything in her life for a career in fashion. Saskia lives in Paris and not in New York, and only does jobs that feel right. She’s been so a silence retraite during fashion week. During. Fashion week. Just saying.

Better than Georgia-May Jagger

Being the number 2 is such a feat. Daphne Groeneveld is on number 24, better than Georgia-May Jagger. I mean, jeez. Bette Franke (if I got to choose a face to put on mine, it would’ve been Bette’s) shines on number 26, Mirte Maas on 44, and Laura Kampman from Micha Models on number 45. Isn’t this just perfect?

Where’s Doutzen?

I feel your question. Where’s Doutzen? I asked myself the same thing. Models.com has different types of rankings. For a spot in the top 50 they only count shoots with top photographers (Steven Meisel, Inez & Vinoodh, also Dutch by the way) and booking for the most important fashion titles (Vogue, i-D magazine, W), and for the most important fashion brands (think Prada, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein).

Make an impression

In order to come to a good top 50, models.com looks at the impression you made on casting directors, photographers, designers and stylists, which amazing covers you’ve done and which fabulous campaigns. When you’ve done everything right, you might end up in their top 50.

Here’s Doutzen

There’s also a money list. It has the girls that earn the most. And here’s our Doutzen (with campaigns for L’Oréal, Tiffany & Co, Repeat Cashmere, Calvin Klein, and a thousand of other things) on number 4. Whether Doutzen cares she’s not in the regular top 50? Imagine you were Doutzen Kroes (just imagine, imagine) would you really be bothered? At all?
