We usually feature a female person who shares her valuable arm candy with us in this column. Then we sniff through her bag, cheeky people that we are…going through its contents in the hope of getting a peep into the soul behind it. Due to fashion week, we decided to grab some models by the collar and ask about the contents of their designer bags. What’s inside, what’s inside?
Heels
They walk around on sneakers, slip ons, ballerinas or something else, as long as it’s heelless because they put in the miles during fashion walk. The heels are in the bag for during a casting. They’re usually hoisted into a simple black dress so their bodies can be judged, and they’re expected to wear heels with it.
Plasters and anti-blister cream
Any decent model wears at least five different pars of shoes on show-day, and they don’t all, put nicely, fit like slippers. The chance of getting a blister is just as big as finding a Starbucks, a Pain Quotidien or a Pret-a-Manger. They usually smear the blue anti-blister stick on their feet, and if the pain is too much, they bring out the blister plasters. That have to be removed during the show of course. Fashion before comfort.
A hairbrush
Your hair needs to look decent for a casting or a fitting. Those strange braids for the show were cute, but back out on the street you might feel a a little strange so your hair needs to be able to be brushed.
Your z-card
To give in at a casting. Your best photo, name, dimensions and number.
Nut stash
The healthiest snack is a stash of raw, unsalted nuts. Energy giving without making you fat. That’s what you need.
Mobile and the rest
Models spend around four hours per day in hair and make-up during fashion week, so spend loads of time on their phones. They can replay the last show quickly on fashionspot.com, post something cute on Instagram and keep in contact with home. Your telephone battery gets drained quickly like this so there is always an extra charger and cable in the bag. And a headset to listen to Pharrell or Rihanna.
Ciggies please
They don’t all smoke of course, but if they do, they generally arrive with one in the mouth. Not good for the skin, but helps keep weight down. Kate moss seems to have gotten away with it.
