7 ways to turn your dollhouse into a palace

My house is pretty much the size of a dollhouse, with a bathroom the size of a stamp and my balcony no bigger than the average size of a flowerpot, yet I’ve still managed to work my magic in my humble abode. A touch of paint here and there and adjusting your furniture really works miracles. And I’m here to tell you how to work miracles in your own little palace.

keep it light

Light colors are always a good idea since it makes your space optically look larger. Not that it means that you’ll have more space for your things, but light wise it’s indispensable. So try to work with the color white as much as possible. If you find it a bit too boring then you can easily combine it with a few other softer tones like light pink or minty green. Try to avoid a soft yellow though since it has a bit of a murky look and feel. Light colored floors are also always a hit. White in general is always a winner, but if you find it to be a bit too vigorous then a light colored wooden floor is pretty too.

Light sources

With even the slightest hint of twilight outside, I flick on all our lights. It just makes the house cozier, and lighter. Go for a variety of different light sources since they reinforce one another and you have light coming from every corner in your house.

mirrors

Don’t play it safe and go for subtle mirrors, the bigger the better. A part of your room will be reflected making it look more spacious. Avoid putting it in front of a stacked up closet or laundry pile, opt for a table with white chairs or a balcony filled with plants.

clean as a whistle

I’m a huge advocate for cubed shelves and glass cabinets, but they have the tendency to look messy. Try to make a great mix of the two. You don’t have to tuck away everything however piles of administration and junk doesn’t really get anyone excited. Make room for the coolest items you own, and be strict with your choices.

Two in one

If your space is limited, you need to be prudent. Think like an American; 2-in-1 is much much more effective. A closet that you can transform into a bed, or a mirror which also happens to be a closet, you get the idea. Drop by IKEA, they are the true commanders when it comes to 2-in-1 solutions.

Multiple rooms

When you’re dealing with a small space, your doubtlessly want to make use of the entire room, but you could easily hang up a curtain or add a closet to divide the space. It might sound crazy, but by doing so you create a division in your space and it’s as though you have multiple rooms. And that, we love.

furniture

Adding a big piece of furniture into a small space can be very exciting. Opt for one big piece of furniture rather than a multitude of small ones because then you’d literally be making a dollhouse. A big plant can be a very cool option, or a nifty lamp. A little tip when you are placing your furniture in your home, position everything a few centimeters off of the wall. That’s what they do in big chic houses, so why shouldn’t you? It’ll make your space look a slight more spacious.
