ALWAYS HAPPY? I DON’T THINK SO
Whoever reads with us on a daily basis (penalty points for those of you who don’t btw), know I started my Monday in a terribly bad mood, this article was a direct result. Now working for Amayzine is the best job in the world but on off-days it’s incredibly hard to work for a personality driven website because it is impossible for me to come up with fun article material. So instead it became a piece about what to do when you’re feeling grumpy. On the whole it wasn’t a very productive day.
People go through life tanned (thank you filters), drink perfect cappuccino’s on gorgeous patios all day..
But even for those of you who don’t work for a website like Amayzine or spend a large part of your life online off-days are something we have in common. I think it’s safe to say we all have Facebook and most of you are on Instagram. I hate people who start their sentences with “ Living in the now”, but living in the now can be a pain if you’re not feeling so good about yourself while, seemingly everybody else is doing great.
People go through life tanned (thank you filters), drink perfect cappuccino’s on gorgeous patios all day, they fly from one dream location to the next, they are never seated behind a desk at the office working with Excel. Don’t misunderstand me, I really like this stuff but sometimes I just get fed up with it all.
That particular off-Monday I posted a picture on Instagram with the text that I was in a very bad mood that day and someone responded with: “ how super cool of you and how very inspiring that you dared to share this with all of your followers”. And I thought that was a very interesting comment, me ‘daring to share’. Is it really that brave to admit you’re not feeling so great? Isn’t that odd? That being happy is the standard and everyone who isn’t is considered brave for saying so?
Nothing on Instagram is untrue, but it’s never the whole story.
I also noticed that if someone is feeling a little blue and says so, it’s always accompanied by a long story and a lot of excuses, something along the line of: I’m sorry to bother you with this, but this and this is the case.” Sometimes I think: gosh, you share everything with your followers and we enjoy everything you do, why can’t we just accept that you’re a human being? Our digital presence is so follow-able it seeps through into our real life, the very reason why keeping up online appearances is such a drag.
Sometime earlier I wrote that my Instagram-life isn’t the same as my real life. Nothing on Instagram is untrue, but it’s never the whole story. And that’s fine, you would think everyone knows this, but apparently they don’t.
Look, I don’t want to nag or bore you down with negativity I always have my girlfriends shoulders to cry on but it concerns me that I always have to be doing well. That I always have to able to write fun going articles and always have to make a joke on Instagram. This is a sunny week so I’m merrier than ever and besides my bad mood last week brought me the idea of writing this article, so I’m great. One moment it’s a happy face, the next moment it’s a sad face, that’s just how I am. And if the sun keeps shining so will I but if my weather changes I just might let you know about it. Be afraid, be very afraid.
