our beauty editor goes backstage at London Fashion Week

– The warm welcome at Paul Smith –

Yesterday you could read all about life backstage at Preen. This backstage visit took place on the exact same day. The rush and thrill of London Fashion Week luckily made me forget that I had been getting out of bed at 6 AM every morning and Paul Smith was yet another adventure on my list of things to do.

The backstage area at Paul Smith was a little smaller than Preen and also a tad more chaotic. At least, that’s what I thought. But after 10 minutes I realized that it wasn’t chaos at all, in fact, everything was running smoothly and the vibe was just very cozy and friendly. Even mister Paul Smith himself had some time available to give us a personal tour backstage and front row, so all in all, I had seen more of the show itself than the average visitor.

M.A.C Cosmetics’ make up artist Petros Petrohilos even took the time to fully explain the looks they would be creating on the models. They were going for a look from the thirties with bold drawn thin lined eyebrows. That was pretty much the only look from the thirties they were going for. The standard lipstick, rosy cheeks and gold eyes they would be leaving out since they wanted it to be more neutral. They used water weight foundation, a little creamy blush and very natural lips. And don’t worry, they didn’t pluck the girls eyelashes to get the ’thin line’ look. It was all done with a really edged pencil. The results: an incredible cool look on the runway with a dash of the thirties and a hint of now.
