afterDRK’s Sabrina Meijer spends her days typing away the coolest posts and going on the coolest trips all the while looking great doing so. Her style; ‘simplicity with an edge.’ And with French women as her big inspiration, Sabrina always looks refined and fresh faced. How she does it is what she shares with us here.

You travel around the entire world. Hopping in and out of airplanes. So I’m assuming you’ve become quite the pro when it comes to packing your makeup bag. What are your essentials and why?

“That sounds pretty jetset, don’t you think?! But honestly it’s not that bad. Though I have indeed become a pro at packing my makeup bag and when I travel I don’t bring an awful lot. Mostly because I usually travel with just a small carry-on (and liquids can really crank up the weight). The things I always bring with me are my concealer from & Other Stories, the Cheek & Lip color in Kick Pleat Red from & Other Stories, eyebrow gel from M.A.C Cosmetics, mascara from any random brand but currently one that I have from the Dior Show, a moisturizer/multifunctional cream (which I currently have a miniature travel version of), makeup remover (currently one from Biodermal Micellair Water which is good for a sensitive skin), lipstick (always random ones but I really like the one from Hurraw!) and of course a tooth brush and tooth paste. Sometimes I don’t even bring a hairbrush, but I usually tag along my mini Mason Pearson. For sunny destinations I bring a mini bottle of sunscreen and when it comes to shampoo and shower gel I always assume that these are available at the hotel.”

How would you describe your philosophy on beauty and makeup? Is it really important to you? Why is it important and why not?

“When it comes to beauty and makeup I’m actually quite simple. I like the natural look, but I can appreciate a good-looking lip every now and then. You won’t catch me leaving the house with heavy eye makeup and I’d rather skip mascara than do without my eyebrow gel. I leave the house at least one day of the week without any makeup on giving my face some time to ‘breath.’ I am devoted to brands and hardly ever change my favorites, unless something gets sent to me by a PR company that I fall in love with after using just once. I like products that have a natural base and I am slowly trying to exchange the products I finish with ones that are completely natural. It can take a while to find them since natural products are not as frequently used as the crap that I usually smear on my face.”

What is your beauty secret for the tropical temperatures we’ve been having? How do you make sure that foundation doesn’t drip off your face or that you are covered in sweat drops?

“I hardly ever use foundation, I prefer a BB cream like VitaZing from Origins. But on very sweaty days I stick to using just an eyebrow gel and a bit of blush and my hair is always tied up. I usually forget this but I find Sisley’s rose water spray to also be very nice. A good tip is to leave it in your fridge to keep it cold, but then you have to remember to take it out in put it in your bag in the morning.”

What are the nicest products that can always be found in your bathroom? And what are your nicest products that you don’t always use but they give you the ultimate feeling of luxury?

“I am a huge fan of Goe Oil from Jao Brand. This is a type of multifunctional product (completely natural) and you can pretty much apply it onto any part of your body that feels dry. For example on the roots of your hair. The Goe Oil smells like old men, and I know that sounds disgusting, but it is divine! Other than that, I am a huge fan of Living Luminizer from RMS which gives me the nicest glow in the world. And something I don’t always use but what gives me the ultimate feeling of luxury is a good scrub (like Frank or the ones from & Other Stories). Moroccanoil for in my hair or Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair.”

Who is your biggest, most inspiring and influential beauty style icon?

“I don’t necessarily have a beauty style icon, but I love the cool Parisian women who wear absolutely no make up (or at least they look like they haven’t used anything) and they look enviably pure and beautiful. People like Charlotte Gainsbourg, Marine Vacth, Clémence Poesy and Jeanne Damas.”

Million dollar tip?

“This is going to sound mega cheesy, but keep it simple. Literally everyone – Kim Kardashain included, look at the Spanish Vogue, looks at their best when they are natural.”
