CELEBRITY WINO’S
We own a corkscrew here at the Amayzine head quarters that has the name Chateau Miraval on it. Pens, scissors, staplers they all tend to disappear in the office but the Chateau Miraval corkscrew has been a part of the Amayzine inventory from day one. Besides it coming in terribly handy when we feel the urge of treating ourselves to a glass of wine come up. It’s above all an awesome and cherished piece of pop culture memorabilia.
Chateau Miraval is the name of the vineyard owned is by non other than the Jolie-Pitts. The vineyard that is part of their French estate is known to produce a lovely rose wine called Pink Floyd. That’s been actually winning a few wine awards. But this Hollywood power couple aren’t the only celebs that expended their empires with their own label of wine. In fact there quite a few famous faces that got into the wine business.
Message in a bottle
It doesn’t take much to guess who is behind the wines from the Il Palagio estate. Each of the Tuscan reds is named after one of Sting’s greatest hits. The vintages, which are made from the vineyards on Sting and Trudie Styler’s biodynamic Italian property, have now gone on sale across Europe and in the U.S. The names include When We Dance and Sister Moon, with the latest addition being Message in a Bottle (£12/$22), a blend of local Tuscan Sangiovese grapes with Syrah and Merlot.
Francis Ford Coppola
Francis Ford Coppola has been very serious about making wine for more than 30 years now. The legendary director owns a gorgeous wine estate in the Californian Sonoma County where he produces nine different brands of wine. There’s the Director’s Cut, Archimedes – Sonoma County Cabernet, Francis Ford Coppola Winery’s flagship wine and Sofia, a line of sparkling wines, to name a few.
Goldie Chardonnay
Hollywood movie star Kurt Russell also has a great love affair with wine and started producing his own pinot noir in the hills north of Santa Barbara back in 2007 named Gogi after his childhood nickname. Soon after he added a Goldie Chardonnay.
Barrymore pinot grigio
Drew Barrymore created this wine in honor of her family. Her travels throughout Italy inspired the actress to create a Pinot Grigio that she enjoys with family and friends. A portion of the proceeds from the purchase of this wine will benefit charity.
Beckham family wine
It was a birthday gift from David Beckham to his wife Victoria in 2008, a vineyard in the California Napa Valley. Unlike Brad and Angie or Sting the Beckhams haven’t commercialised their wines but just produce for their own private use.
AC/DC
More recently rockers AC/DC teamed up not to create a new record but to produce a range of AC/DC wines in collaboration with Australian winery Warburn Estate. The wines have been sourced from the Australian regions of Barossa and Coonawarra. And the range includes wines named after the band’s most famous hits, including Back in Black Shiraz, Highway to Hell Cabernet Sauvignon, Hells Bells Sauvignon Blanc and You Shook Me All Night Long Moscato.
