don’t be alarmed but

Your bag might be just as dirty as a toilet seat

We’ll easily spend a two month salary on a designer bag, shamelessly reserve and extra seat in the plane for our baby it-bag and even have the nerve to ask a waiter for an extra linen napkin to place our bag on, and so on… But other than the above, we take horrendous care of our arm candy.

In England they conducted a bit of research (in this case it was done by the Initial Washroom Hygiene and Goodmorning Britian) with 1000 bags from the exact same amount of females and the outcomes were rather shocking. 150 bags had just met the hygiene standards, 500 of the bags were labeled as ‘alarming’ and even 150 of the bags were just as dirty as your average toilet seat.

Since I once made the promise to be brutally honest with all of you, I’ve dumped all of the insides on my desk. Here are my finds:

– A Chanel wallet

– Backstage pass for Rag & Bone

– A card from L.A. issued from my hotel there. Yikes, that was three months ago…

– A Chanel perfume tester which has been in there for quite some times. But hey, it is an exclusive scent, Sycomore

– A cupcake made out of plaster from one of my daughters which it supposed to work as an amulet for good luck or to just remind me of her

– My passport

– Set of keys

– Invite for Tommy Hilfiger’s show

– A business card from someone who works at the Chanel store on Robertson Boulevard in L.A.

– Chanel lipgloss

Peppermints from New York (they are so gross so they’ll probably stay in a my bag for quite some time)

– A tampon (you never know when you might need one…)

– A few receipts

– A gift certificate for one of my favorite stores in Amsterdam (yesss, almost forgot I had it)

– A scent from Diptyque (scent number 34)

To be honest, it could have been worse. But then again the amount of things in a bag doesn’t say too much about the state of its cleanliness, but it does show how long it’s been since I’ve had a thorough look at what’s inside. However, this does indicate that I haven’t had it cleaned it a long time.

But other than that, we take horrendous care of our arm candy!

So how about this; this evening we’re all going to take a few minutes and bring out our inner Martha Stewarts? Here are the best ways for you to clean your bag.

– Wipe it clean with unscented and alcohol free baby wipes

– At Tod’s they swear by Nivea milky facial cleanse. Put some on a cotton pad and swipe it all over your bag. Unless it’s made of suede.

– There is a YouTube star who’s obsessed with Cockpit-spray. But only on synthetic bags so keep it away from leather and suede.

– The girls at Michael Kors advise silver polish wipes for all the metal compartments of your bag.

– And if you’re just plain lazy, you could just bring your bag to a cleaner but it’ll cost ya. Up to you…
