Friends

in all shapes and sizes

Sending lengthy letters when you were off on a holiday, fantasizing about what your first kisses would be like, spending hours on end on the phone after having just seen each other at school. Having identical necklaces; she had one half of the heart, while you had the other. As long as I can remember, I’ve always been the girl with many girlfriends. And I still am – I adore all the girls around me. And then preferably girls who are completely different types than I am. My friend pallet is therefore very diverse, but I couldn’t do without any of them. Why? Let me explain.

the entertainer

The entertaining friend tends to be the one who gets the most attention and with who there is never a dull moment. In my group of friends, J is the comedian of the bunch. I don’t know if it’s because she’s an actress or not, but anywhere we go, she steals the show (intentionally or not). And I can’t help but enjoy it and encourage her to gives us another burlesque performance in that après-ski bar. Why I can’t live without her? “A day without laughter…”

the prettiest

Everyone has a friend that is the prettiest. You’re not intimidated by her. You just tag along on their beauty-train. Whenever I am with my friend M, model and one of my besties, we always get that little bit of extra attention and we never have to wait in line. Useful right?

The Psychologist

To me a wise friend is essential, because sometimes you just really need a well-grounded second opinion. With my friend I, also known as the psychologist, I can spend hours on end discussing the ‘what to do with my life’ query. Any time I call her, she takes the time to talk and we’re on the phone for at least half an hour.

The Loyal One

Friends who loyally listen to your countless stupid blunders, remember the anniversaries with your boyfriend (which I tend to forget myself sometimes) and who will be the first at your doorstep after the slightest tear has been shed. Friend R is that type of friend, and to me, the sweetest on the planet. We don’t see each other that often because she still lives in my hometown, but we babble on the phone daily.

the soul mate

Everyone needs one: a soul mate. Whether it’s your significant other, or a friend, anytime you’re with them you really don’t need anything else. In my case, it’s my cousin. We cry together, laugh together, dance and gossip together. And we’ve been together for so long, I can’t even image what it’s like without her. Unconditional love you see.

the party animal

Some girls lend themselves to be the ultimate party buddy. Friend A is always down for a festival, a cocktail or to go clubbin’. She helps me hang up the garlands and throw around some confetti while she’s at it.

The Gbf (gay best friend)

As much as I hate clichés, I have to give in and admit to this one. Though I don’t see him as an accessory (and he would kill me for referring to him in that way), friend J is my ultimate friend to talk to about men. It’s just a tad different than talking to your estrogen filled girlfriends and straight friends who always tell you to quit whining. I just want to share my story, okay?

The Childhood Friend

We started off playing together in the sandbox and to this day we still see each other. Childhood friends are great for your self-reflection. With my friend A, we regularly share our ‘what was I thinking’ moments from our youth and we can’t contain our hysterical laughter.

The Free Spirited

“But it was meant to be this way, it’s all-good,” my friend Y always says. Anytime she tells me a vague story, I burst into laughter. But maybe she has secretly taught me to let go a little and to not worry so much about silly little things. But that’s between you and I, okay?

The Networker

Friend V is always all over the place. She knows everyone in the city and all the hottest go-to places. Very useful if I may say so.

The Stylish One

There I am again, gawking at four different bags at Macy’s. She is my go-to gal to text with my options and she usually makes the final decision for me. Friends who help you make these kinds of crucial decisions, you need to cherish, very much..

So, what friend are you and which do you have?
