7 Ways to get that designer piece

(YES, YOU TOO)

Does your heart start beating faster when watching the catwalks? And are you thinking to yourself: I want it ALL, but I can’t afford ANYTHING? There are ways to bring the catwalk into your home. You might have to be patient but it can be done. We’ll tell you how.

create a mood board

Even Olivia Palermo can’t take home a runway-piece in one go. It’s only after the show that they start the actual production. And the pieces are sent to the editorial departments of fashion magazines first for photo-shoots. So remember what you fell in love with, take a screenshot and save it in a special photo file. Or create a mood board, always fun.

Go to the store

I understand it might feel a little scary to just walk into a Dior, Prada or Gucci store, but just do it. The ladies at Chanel always make me feel right at home. These stores really attend to you and take the time to do so. Yes, you do have to go shopping in your best outfit with a piece of designer candy hanging from your arm. And no, that’s not silly. If you walk in there in a track suit they’ll think you don’t care about fashion and won’t even give you a second glance. You might have a problem with this attitude but that’s just the way it works. Do you want a cup of coffee or glass of champagne during your visit? Well then, dress the part. Literally. Once inside you’ll see that some prices aren’t so bad. Bijoux is often very affordable and the shoes might be a little more expensive but then you are buying an experience.

good old sale

Do you have a small size? Lucky you. It may sound a little prejudiced but ladies with cash usually fill the larger sizes. Expensive shops often put their smaller sizes on sale with a 70% reduction off the original price. So go out and score.

Outlet

I saw the Prada show and afterwards I drooled over the collection (there was also some groping involved) during the re-see. Those coats with bell sleeves… To die for. One day I was strolling through a designer outlet and guess what I spotted? That coat for a fraction of the price.

 the better vintage

If you know where to look you could be wearing a dress that Keira Knightley or Charlize Theron wore before you. A lot of celebs sell their clothes through Ebay or other designer vintage spots.

Online Walhalla

On of our editors starts her day everyday by surfing  the ‘What’s New’ section on Netaporter.com. There she found all gold Nike sneakers that sold out just an hour later. Beyoncé only got hold of them a week later. Liesbeth once saw her style icon Kim Kardashian wearing a green Gucci-dress. It made quite an impression. Two years later she was surfing on Amuse.com and what did she see? The dress. It was blue and one size too large but that could be solved. Reduced in price from €3800 to €350 so hers to have, bingo.

I was once saw Blake Lively in a creamy white Gucci and fell in love. I found it right here in Amsterdam for a very reasonable price.

Another one our editors follows Diane von Furstenberg and saw the heart shaped shoes that wear her name. Apparently you could find them on Netaporter.com, just a mouse click away. The shoes were sent back and forth three times before she had the right size but her friends at Netaporter.com took care of the delivery costs. She had bought the shoes for a special occasion and on that night she was the belle of the ball.
