Go bare foot
– 5 steps to pretty feet –
Now that the shy spring sun has decided to come out more often, a few people in our editorial team have made a point of keeping their socks off en sticking their feet in open shoes. Nice, even cute but it does require some preparation, nobody likes gaunty feet. Not to have and not to want. Thank goodness you can do this all at home, saves you a walk to the pedicurist.
Step 1 – Don’t call us we’ll call you
Friction in your shoes causes callus. You do not want that. It’s time to bring out the callus remover. Sounds a little gruesome but it easily removes dead skin cells, especially the part that has turned hard. Even easier and pain free are callus removing socks. You put them on for one night and the rest of the week you loose little bits and pieces. For this reason there are two things to consider; first of all you have to hide your feet (wear socks) for a week as they don’t look attractive and second; you have to get rid of your husband for a week for the same reason as the first. It works, but make sure you start on time.
Step 2 – Scrub
Even after you have removed the callus you are left with some dry spots. So get scrubbing. There are special scrubs availible for feet that are very mild. Then rinse away the dry spots and dead skin cells in your shower. Massage the feet while scrubbing. This stimulates the blood circulation and gives your feet a nice pink color.
Step 3 – Foot bath
With a foot bath you soak all the dirt and loose skin from your feet. You don’t just relax your feet but get a clean sweep as well.
Step 4 – The polishing process
Wearing open shoes without polished nails is something I find a little disturbing. Read: untrimmed nails, ridged nails, old nail varnish…. Oh my, I could go on for a while but you understand. What to do? Get out a nail file and get those nails in shape. Then add a few layers of colorful varnish. You, and everyone around you will enjoy your pretty feet.
Step 5 – Oil’em
Now that you’ve followed all the steps doesn’ t mean it stops there. It’s important to apply oil or lotion to your feet everyday to keep them soft and hydrated. Feet tend to dry out fast, especially in open shoes, this shows. There are special foot creams that not only smell nice (….. smelly feet?) but they also hydrate really well.
