As I’m writing this article, it’s storming and raining. Hard…

I know someone who loves theses showers but for the average follower of fashion, it’s a disaster, especially when unprepared. Your hair goes down the drain, your nose runs, your make-up is watered down and your carefully put together outfit has gone to heaven. Now one of those hideous water repellant monsters in the form of a rain coat or suit do obviously not belong to the solutions, so read on if you want to arm yourself stylishly against unwanted wetness.

Heels in the rain are not ideal but if you can’t do without them, take care that your soles don’t get slippery. The last thing you want is to end up on your nose. The most practical are shoes with an anti-slip sole or a profile-sole.

Rain boots are a better alternative in this case. Until very recently, rain boots were not considered high fashion. More for people who spend time outside or for working in the garden. Until Kate Moss started wearing Hunter Boots. Once she was spotted, the sales skyrocketed to quickly that they had a waiting list.

Obviously you should spray your suede shoes with a protective anti-rain spray, but even so I don’t recommend wearing suede. Besides getting wet and dirty, water can leave stains on suede…

The classic trench-coat is perfect for rainy weather. I don’t know if you’ve taken a look at the new collections yet, but Burberry has a few stunning variations on the traditional model.

Bad weather is extremely depressive, so why not purposely choose for a bit of colour? The easiest way to do this is with your umbrella. Did you know that a warm colour ensures a better tone on your face (green and blue will make you look dull and cold)?

The real star of the rain outfits is by Miu Miu (fall 2014 collection). Colourful transparent jackets and boots that will undoubtedly be copied by commercial brands.

Finally, pay attention to beauty, because the right haircare products and cosmetic can save a whole lot of suffering.

Use an anti-frizz serum or hairspray to keep your hair in shape. When it rains, the air is extra humid so the right products can help work against this.

Wear waterproof mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow. Waterproof mascara is vital on a rainy day.

If possible go for liquid foundations and blush on a rainy day instead of powders.
