SHAKE IT AWAY!

with Ellemieke Vermolen

Our health and fitness editor Jet is hibernating for the entire month of November to cook up a storm. Or in her case, a cookbook. And since she doesn’t want us to go off the deep end when it comes to health, she’s found a couple a cool fit girls to guide us through the month. We’ve currently got former Dutch model and actress Ellemieke Vermolen who will be introducing us to her healthy and happy lifestyle.

I am a mom filled with energy. But that hasn’t always been that way. A few years ago feeling exhausted was a daily thing. Every morning when my alarm went off all I could think of was: already?! I had to drag myself through an entire day. After a blood test, it was constituted that I had glandular fever. During that time I was being trained by Ralph Moorman in hormone factors. This study really broadened my horizons when it comes to nutrition, sport, stress and balance.

I try to maintain a lifestyle in which I keep these hormone factors in line. What that means is that I try to eat as little (to none) of products that contain gluten and lactose. And I workout frequently! I currently live by the 80/20 rules.

I workout three to four times a week. Once a week I partake in in door cycling, weight training, pilates and yoga.

Sometimes I replace cycling by jogging, it depends on the weather And by the way, yoga is definitely my favorite. Every Monday after I drop my boys off at school I drive straight through to my yoga class. It’s a small class with max five other girls and after ever class I feel reborn and ready to take on the week.

Another thing that always gives me an instant boost is a good shake.

So hereby my favorite:

What do you need?

– 1 grapefruit
– half a cucumber

– half a zucchini
– a hand flu of cauliflower
– 1 lemon
– 3 cm ginger
– 1 SMALL pinch of cayenne pepper

preparation

Throw all the vegetables and fruit into a slow juicer, then pour the juice into a cup and add the cayenne pepper. Give it a good stir.

You can use a blender too if you’d like, but then make sure to squeeze out the lemon and grapefruit juice.
