4 super veggies
Abs are made in the kitchen, but so is good skin, bright eyes, energy levels and strong nails. Nutrition plays a huge part. If you eat regularly, healthily, without too many sugars and don’t find it hard to pass by fast food joints, then you’re probably okay. Sounds like a lot of hard work and a little boring, but it isn’t. Because if you stick to the healthy path, you can fly off the handle every now and then and enjoy that piece of cake, gigantic burger, extra glass of wine, sticky toffee cake or whatever. Your body will be able to handle it better.
To have a healthy lifestyle we need to talk vegetables. We need at least 2 ounces per day. And it is not found in the bottle on the supermarket shelf that says “2 ounces of veggies in this bottle”. Sorry, but that’s just rubbish. It is so simple to make a fresh broccoli soup, or to steam some beans or wok a little spinach.
Here are 5 green super veggies in a row. Easy to prepare and extremely healthy.
Maybe you’ve seen it while flicking through the TV on the telly shopping channels. Little bottles with artichoke extract that apparently make you lose tons of weight. All untrue, because you have to adjust your entire diet and do more sport to lose weight. You know the story. But what is true, is that the artichoke contains a substance that has a laxative affect (excuse me). It is full of antioxidants and has a positive effect on weight loss. Seriously, you will not gain a single pound from eating them (take care with the dressing). Watch this video for a guide to preparing it.
Yes Popeye was right. You do get big and strong from Spinach. It’s full of iron, protein and fibre, which makes it very digestible. I always have a bag of washed spinach lying in my fridge. You can use it in so many dishes.
Wok it lightly in a little coconut oil with a piece of fish. Or eat raw (baby) spinach in a salad with goats cheese, grated apple and walnuts. One, two, three and you have a super healthy meal. Let’s not forgot about smoothies. This one for example, I bet you anything you won’t even notice that you’re eating it in this sweet breakfast.
This is very popular in model-land. Kale it is. People say that it is the healthiest veggie in the world. Loaded with antioxidants and fibre, so good for your skin and digestion.
Delicious in a salad, on your sandwich or through mashed potato. Very few calories (we like), lots of fibre so good for digestion and a whole lot of vitamins and minerals that I won’t go into, because you might not even recognise some of the names. Believe me though, your body will love this veggie/salad. I’d like to share this rucola pesto recipe with you. Whack a big spoon through your spelt pasta, sandwich with cottage cheese or through a tomato soup.
