The comeback of John Galliano in 7 facts

Banished to the naughty step for three long years (and rightly so because John Galliano had fallen to terrible lows through drink and drug use), John once again had the chance to nestle under mother fashion’s wing last night. His first collection for Maison Martin Margiela was showed. Tim Blanks of Style.com concluded; It’s his Maison now.

  1. Only 100 people attended. Mostly just friends and the most influential fashion journalists took their place on the fold up chairs.
  2. Only one Dutch model walked; Maartje Verhoef, who else?
  3. Only Cécile Narinx attended from the Dutch press. Fiona Hering also had a ticket but she cancelled because of the death of Frans Molenaar and instead took her place at RTL Boulevard. This despite the great historical value of the show. Priorities must be made sometimes.
  4. During the show it rained with tweets like: Love, love, love. The fact that Galliano blended the heritage of Maison Martin Margiela (lots of black & white, unfinished seams and love for the classic white shirt) with his theatrical style was the most mentioned positive.
  5. Beads, masks and black toy cars all served as decoration in his designs.
  6. A couture dress by Galliano for Maison Martin Margiela will easily cost you €50.000. No joke.
  7. John Galliano, known for his over the top stage appearances received his applause with humility. No bare chest. Simply clothed in a white fabric jacket. Note this one down on your things to buy list.

Welcome back, John. you were missed.
