We’re all familiar with the Kim K.-effect, where a lot of lines on your face make things look smaller and streamlined. It really works. You can look 10 pounds lighter by fooling around with make-up. It’s as easy as that.
Do the brow
Eyebrows determine the shape of your face. Your looks benefit by getting them into the right shape. The wrong shape can make you look tired or tardy. Get an eyebrow specialist to determine the best shape, visit the brow bar or invest in powders and pencils for some DIY.
good coupe
Find a good hair stylist. If your hair looks great so does your face. Your coupe doesn’t have to come out of a magazine and color-sets turn out differently for every hair type. A real connoisseur looks at your face before deciding which colors and coupe suit you.
Thick Lines
This week I visited a trend presentation for M.A.C. Cosmetics who said thick eyeliners are the latest fashion. That’s a definite plus because good Smokey eyes and thick lines make the bottom half of your face look smaller.
No bronzers
You always have to be careful with bronzers, especially when you’re shaping. Use matte powders to prevent a shiny face.
Highlights
Highlighting the right spots is important. Shadowy places, like the area under your eyebrows or just above your lips can use some extra light. Also apply a little to your forehead, the middle of your nose en in the cupid arch. Your face will look longer instead of wider.
Things to look out for
Believe me, shaping takes practice. For one I’m not going to say the name of a famous make-up artist who tested his shaping on me as I felt he needed more practice. I happened to run into Liesbeth an hour later. She asked what had happened to me. I was covered in spots. So if you’re going to try this there are a few pointers you need to attend to.
1. Powder your face first. You are going to work with different brown tones and powders. If you start off with an oily skin or your foundation isn’t dry you are guaranteed to get spots. Don’t want that.
2. Never work with shiny bronzers. Always choose the matte version. They blend better and you won’t turn into an Oompa Loompa.
3. Take the time to look at your face. You can watch a YouTube video but remember everyone has different features. Check what looks good on you and then apply the shaping rules required.
4. Take your time. If you rush it you might end up with unwanted stripes or spots. Go for quality products these are effective and nice to work with.
