The sunny side of flo coming to town
“Sooooo Jet, has Flo come to town again?” This remark comes to mind whenever I’m a bit grumpy. Usually, it’s also quite true. The day before the flag is hung out, I do indeed become pretty stroppy and have a tendency to feel that the world will end. Every time it’s the same and I actually forget that it is once again that time of the month. “Oh right, that silly thing again, making me feel like the unhappiest person in the world”, I think to myself the next day. Look, the fact that you feel ten kilos heavier and have the idea that you’ve grown to a double-D or even E is just not helping the situation. That is all very much a reality at the time, but luckily it also disappears. The same goes for the back pain and headaches. Men, are you reading this? Do you realize how ridiculous this all is? Well, from now on I’m putting a positive spin on it, because believe me, there are a few advantages:
– Do you feel like sweets, chocolate or suddenly a great big pot of roti (that’s me for example)? You can of course give in to these hankerings, because it’s time to celebrate! Flo’s in town.
– You have good reason for your bad mood. So just take a few days and let grumpy have a little time to shine.
– No one should be surprised if you sit and cry through the first few minutes of a movie. Not to mention what a full episode of tears it is when Grey’s Anatomy’s Derek Shepherd is shot.
– You can also have those amazing rushes of “I am woman, hear me roar”. Because having a period is the most feminine thing a woman involuntarily does and men have absolutely nothing to do with it.
– Finally sweatpants with oversized hoodies are fully acceptable.
– In the past you didn’t have to go to school gym class because it was that time of month and it is legitimately fine to keep this same rule for your current gym commitments.
– Your period is usually a sign that you’re fertile. This can be conveniently comforting to know.
