the wondrous world of hair trends

Every now and then my inbox receives some rather odd press releases that make me cringe. Especially the photos that go hand in hand with the releases. Astounding. Trends are fun but they can be crazy too and I’m still trying to comprehend how some become world wide phenomenons. Hair trends included. Purple hair; I guess that’s one I can somewhat understand, the pixie cut; not my personal cup of tea but other women rocked it like none other and the wet look; a look I still need to get used to. Here are five trends that I can’t fully grasp and I don’t think I ever will. How about you?

Hair tattoos

You know, those things you used to stick on to any part of your body and would be gone after a few rinses. It gives off a bit of a festival vibe, but I’m sure it’s a cool trend for the holidays too.

Tattooing your hair

Our creative marketing intern Theo used to parade around with a mini afro, however nowadays it’s easier to categorize him into the #teamcueball department. Which isn’t a bad thing by the way because he is still handsome and charming, but I can understand that the transition can be quite overwhelming. The solution? Tattooing stubbles on the bald patches. It’ll make it look ‘fuller.’ Sounds like a bizarre and painful trend, but hey, I’m sure it helps get rid of quite a few male frustrations.

Glitter gel in your hair

This definitely makes me reminisce about my teenage years when you would color strands of your hair, except this time around, it’s all over. You basically go through life like a giant disco ball. The ‘wet look’ but with glitter gel. Kinda cool for a party I guess, but I’d contemplate avoiding the look on a regular week day.

Man buns

The man bun is currently very hip and happening hence the reason the world has been introduced to an actual clip-in man bun. Seriously. A clip with a bun attached. All they have to do is fasten it to their hair. Now I have to admit, men who buy accessories for their hair already frighten me, but this bun is so perfectly styled, it emphasizes its fakeness. Don’t do it guys, don’t.

Plants in your hair

This trend is one that is slowly but surely making its transatlantic debut all the way from Asia; plastic plants clipped into your hair. The idea behind this trend is that it looks like an actual beanstalk is growing straight out of your head. I guess everything to compensate all the pollution. Great idea, but what an idiotic execution if you ask me.
