to blonde or not to blonde

“I’m not saying your hair doesn’t look good, because it definitely does, but you kind of look like a grown up little girl.” Leave it to my hairdresser to give me the most honest advice. Because I’m a. always up for trying something new and b. I trust him wholeheartedly with my locks, even if he trimmed them with his eyes closed.

An outbreak of text messages followed. Beautiful blunette. Mocca meets caramel with a feather of white. A picture of Olivia Palermo was sent my way. That was the look he would be going for. Unfortunately he wouldn’t be able to magically add her entire wardrobe to my hair makeover but alas. A shorter chop was due my way.

Of course we discussed the recent failed attack that took place in the Thalys and the heroic men who prevented a massacre, but my hair was also another topic of discussion at the office. While some people were keen to see me go back to brunette, the blonde posse at the office was more than determined to keep me as one of their own. Food for thought for the weekend since Tuesday was the big day.

While some people were keen to see me go back to brunette, the blonde posse was determined to keep me as one of their own.

On Saturday I spent the evening on a boat with a bunch of friends, amongst which was my hairdresser. He whispered the word “Tuesday” in my ear and I could feel his eyes linger towards my mane from across the boat.

And there we were, seated next to each other at the end of the night. “I have a confession to make May,” said the master. “I’m not feeling it.” We’ve been having a great ‘extended summer’ here in Amsterdam (well, apart from today), and blondes really do have more fun, it’s sexy, so why fix something that isn’t broken? Long story short: we kept it blond. Although length wise it’s become more of a ‘long retired bob’ à la Olivia Palermo.

“Very artsy with a messy ponytail.”

Once the finale of Holland’s Next Top Model is around the corner, we’ll take another dive into L’Oréal Professional’s closet. Then we’ll go for brown. Or white. Cause that’s what he was feeling when I walked out of his salon. “Very artsy with a messy ponytail.”

We’ve still got a little while to go. What do you think?
