What can we learn from the swedish?
Do the fika
One of my best friends is Swedish. I have never ben able to catch her stressed, though we only ever see each other during the holidays (and there was that sabbatical year in Rome we spent together).
Maybe they’r so at peace because Sweden is so spacious and green but there is another thing that keeps them relaxed, the Fika.
You won’t see an It-girl with a latte in her right- and a mobile in her left hand running for a taxi in Sweden. Nope. There they take a break in a konditorei or coffee bar.
No one ever seems to be on a diet in Sweden yet I only know thin people from there. It’s probably because of all the walking they do……. During their coffee break the mobiles are muted and people converse. With each other. Now there’s a lesson.
A mutual friend of ours from Italy joined us in Malmö. She had been shopping and city tripping and told us the thing she enjoyed the most was the high percentage of gays sitting in cafés with their children. Well they weren’t gays but so-called latte-daddys. Modern well-dressed Swedish men that also enjoy a six month maternity leave which they spend fika-ing in Swedish coffee salons.
