This is what you buy
in foreign supermarkets
You can leave me behind in Carrefour, Whole Foods or an Intermarché any day of the week and be rid of me for at least an hour. If we go there by car you’re out of luck as we’ll be going home with a trunk filled with food: granola, energy bars, cans of Italian tomatoes….
I made my way around our department asking everyone: what do you buy at a foreign supermarket?
Liesbeth always looks forward to a special liver paté you can only buy in Italy. The brand is called “iCrostini”, and Liesbeth always goes for the paté di fegatini. “A thin layer on a bruschetta will bring you straight to heaven”, says Liesbeth who also admits to cleaning out the tray with a spoon.
I for example love to buy cans of Marron (some delicatessens have them though); this is a chestnut puree. It’s very sweet and delicious with some fromage blanc.
And I never leave England without Fortnum&Mason Darjeeling tea.
As for Whole Foods; they have an enormous range of ‘KIND’; energy and granola bars. They always make my heart beat a little faster. The Cliff Bar is my favorite and the Greens+ Omega3 chia bar. Then I walk over to the cooler, where I drool over the ‘So Delicious’ coconut yogurts. Yum.
May-Britt always buys stock cubes and olive oil in Italy; because they make the best. In France she buys soap (savon Marseille) and honey and if in season a string of braided garlic and a bush of dried lavender.
Coco always bought bottles of gazpacho when she lived in Spain. Maybe even better than making it yourself.
When in France I always visit the cosmetics department. There are shampoos I never find at home, they come in pretty bottles and smell divine.
Do you have any tips? Well you know where to find me.
