What to eat after your workout

I’ve already given you plenty of tips on what to eat before starting your workout and how to avoid it all coming up during the warm-up. Now we’re going to talk about what’s good to eat after your workout. Food is one of the most important things there is to consider when trying to keep fit. If your muscles are expected to take an hour long pounding, you need to give them fuel and food helps your muscles heal faster. It’s a must. Your muscles need food after sport to become strong and healthy. Muscles burn more energy (calories) than fat.

Food is one of the most important things there is to consider when trying to keep fit.

By building muscle you’ll eventually lose fat. That’s what you want right? And no, I don’t mean turning into a body builder. That is not going to happen from hanging out with a few weights. Right, back to the food. Recoup-food is essential. You need carbohydrates and protein. The carbohydrates refill your energy and the protein is necessary for the rebuilding of muscle. So if you eat well, you’ll have less muscle pain. Also good right? Here are a few ideas:

For after a morning or afternoon workout:

  •  Low fat cottage cheese with fruit and nuts
  •  Oats with almond milk and blue berries
  •  A spelt bread sandwich with grilled veggies
  •  A smoothie with coconut water, pineapple, cucumber, ginger, spinach and avocado.

For after an evening workout:

  • A piece of grilled chicked with a baked sweet potato
  • Grilled salmon (lots of good fat and protein) with vegetables and quinoa
  • Make your own humus with lots of vegetables to dip
  • An omelette with vegetables. I often use three egg whites and one yolk in a pan. Yes, I throw the other yolks away…
