Remember last week when I wrote about a new mantra on how to get over a guy you’ve been dumped by? Well, there are more things you can do to help get your mind off of the asshole and to realize you are much better off without him. There are two types of break up songs out there: the hopelessly depressing ones that are going to make you stay in bed for a week wallowing and stuffing yourself with Ben & Jerry’s, and there are the badass break up songs that’ll pump you up and help your realize: good riddance. Today is all about the ones that are going to bring out your inner badass.
Alanis Morisette – You Oughta Know
Hands down, the number one spot goes to Alanis Morisette. Fun fact, her entire album Jagged Little Pill was written after she and Ryan Reynolds broke up.
Adele – Someone Like You
Imagine being one of Adele’s exes and knowing that she made millions writing and singing about you. Hallelujah, talk about a way to get over someone. Ka-ching! Now if only I had been gifted with good vocal skills…
Kelly Clarkson – Since U Been Gone
‘Since U been gooooone, I can now breathe for the fiiiirst time la la la laaaa’. Be upfront with me. This song, hair brush in hand and a mirror. Been there, done that.
No Doubt – Don’t Speak
Gotta give credit to Gwen Stefani for writing this song about her fellow bandmate and ex boyfriend Tony Kanal, takes some (female) balls. But then again, this resulted in quite a coveting bank account so I’m sure there’s no bad blood between the two.
Taylor Swift – We Are Never Getting Back Together
Love or hate the girl, she has a way of writing exactly how we’re feeling. This classic Swift number written about ex Joe Jonas (or was it Harry Styles? We have a hard time keeping track) is possibly the most direct text to an ex ever.
