5 BEAUTY MISTAKES YOU MAKEon the work floor
You would think the bar has been set pretty high here at the office when it comes down to our every day looks. Good point. And opening every email we get from Net-A-Porter seems to be a given. As is our utter scorn for crop tops that display pierced belly buttons. But other than the latter, we’re a pretty easy going herd. I’ve been guilty of showing up at the office in sweat pants and I’ve definitely spotted one of the other editors walking around with wet hair. So don’t worry, our vibe here is chill and our editor in chief is one of the most relaxed woman to work for. However, there are some no-go’s you need to steer far far away from on the work floor. Have a job interview coming up? Memorize the following:
Too much color
We’re always keen on having a healthy shade of color and if you’ve just gotten back from 6 weeks in the Bahamas, you won’t get faulted for it either. But a spray tan that gives you Oompa Loompa vibes won’t be doing you any justice. It will only make you look a little too glam and very unprofessional. Want to do it right? Go for a light bronzer instead of a self-tan if you want a healthy glow on your face. Just remember, your physique is never equally tanned in all places, so apply it to the areas that normally get a bit of sunlight too.
Do the brow
We get it; well groomed brows are hot. But if you were to show up at the office with bleaches or blacked out eyebrows, then we’d have to fight back the urge to laugh. Not everyone knows who Cara Delevingne is or stays up to date on all the latest runway shows. Try to keep it natural. It’s okay to shape them and to fill in the bare area to create a good facial expression. Just don’t overdo it.
Fake lashes
Another one of those things you have to keep in check. Lashes are fine, Bambi eyes are even better, just make sure to avoid any lumps. If you have a good pair of fake lashes then you’re good to go. But we’ve had the occasional run in with lashes that were far too long, with the added risk of falling off. Oh, and even worse; lashes with glittery tips or colored ones. Seriously, ditch ‘em a the office, save ‘em for the weekend.
Long nails
Over the top long nails remind us of cliché assistants you’ll find in awful rom-com movies. The woman you could hear typing at her computer from a mile a way and would spend a huge chunk of her day filing them rather than organizing and planning meetings. Not only are these nails extremely inconvenient, they’re not hygienic either. It’s best to opt for a shorter nail in a lighter color. It looks really sophisticated and makes you seem like a total go-getter. And isn’t that the impression you want to leave behind?
OTT fierce hair
Although purples, grey’s and dip dyes might be trending right now, they aren’t quite the right fit for the office. The creative industry is a bit more understanding of this look (it displays self-confidence) but any other workplace might label you as the office clown. If it’s a color you already have, then make sure to rock it with a traditional hairdo: in a bun or in a braid. This way, you’ll get away with it.
