JOB INTERVIEW, MEETING YOUR IN-LAWS OR A FIRST DATE?

These are the nail polish colors you should go for

Important meeting tomorrow or a fun party marked in your agenda? It’s easy to start stressing about a look – which is crucial when you’ve got a job interview or a first date – but your hands and nails might just be your most important accessory. But thinking beauty-tactics, what color should you go for? I asked Suzi Weiss, founder of OPI nagellak, who clearly knows what to do, and more importantly what color to do, when you happen to be in any of the below situations.

9 to 5 work look

“Nowadays there are absolutely no more taboos. You can opt for whatever you want. I’m always in and out of meetings and I find that women are more open to color these days. I even see CEO’s walk around with blue or green on their nails. So the whole pin striped look with a French manicure is very passé. Be more daring.”

Job interview

“Don’t let your nails steal the show during your job interview. Try to avoid that because the meeting should be all about you. That doesn’t mean you have to go for a boring color though. Downgrade your nails, but make sure they look well taken care of. Pastel colors are the perfect solution. Got the job? From there on out your can go all out with color.”

First date

“Contrary to your job interview, it’s completely fine to turn your nails into a conversation piece. Don’t hold back. Men secretly do know how important nails are subconsciously they check to see if your nails are well kept and have a bit of color. Like I said, don’t hold back. At least you’ll have something to talk about in case the date is a disaster.”

Meeting your mother-in-law for the first time

“I think the color depends on whether you like her or not, but still, if you’ve never met her before, then you won’t know if you’ll like her or not. I think you should go for a natural color. Don’t shock her the first time. Especially if your boy tells you she’s a bit of a ‘hard-ass.’ A pastel color will do the trick and looks well groomed and clean. Exactly the impression you hope to leave her with.”

Party till late look

“I always thought that red was very glamourous and very ‘Hollywood.’ It definitely is but we have launched so many different shades of red and have shown that the color is very timeless. But today I think that the darker shades are very on-trend. ‘Lincoln Park After Dark’ for example. An exciting color and I remember when we launched it, it was sort of a revolution. ‘Lady in Black’ is another shade that always works. Dark colors are very cool and chic. And look good on shorter nails too.”
