The 5 golden rules for a wedding scent

Bridezilla or not, if you’re getting married you want – at least, I would – your wedding to be perfect in every possible way. The perfect invitation, THE dress (duh), the right makeup, flowers and who knows what else. But why do women always choose to wear a rather basic perfume that smells like roses? Wouldn’t it be awesome to choose a scent that fits you, that fits the day and gives you a life-long memory? Because a scent can give you a memory (think of your grandma’s scent, you’d recognize it in a heartbeat). And it seems to me that you’d want it engraved in everyone’s memory. Your friends, your hubby… It’s not that unnecessary to add that to your wedding to do list too.

What to do? Here are the five rules you need to follow to find the perfect scent. Take it or leave it. Trust me, it’s a lot of fun to put some extra time into doing this for your wedding day. That way you’ll be guaranteed that no one will ever forget what you smelled like. Or your special day.

1. Match your scent to the look and feel of the day

Are you having a ballroom wedding in an old castle? Might be good to opt for a warmer and spicier perfume. It will give it a little more warmth and charisma and it will embrace the location as well. Are you having a festival wedding in a flowery garden? Then a flowery scent will probably do the trick. So make sure to look at the location and theme of the day. You probably have an image in mind of this day, so try to translate it into a scent.

2. Look at the season

The season in which you’re getting married is also important. You have warmer and fresher perfumes in every category (whether it be in flower, sensual or aqua scents). If you’re getting married in the winter, opt for a warmer scent and a light and fresh scent in the summer.

3. Layer

If you really want something special, you can choose to combine a couple of scents. Take Jo Malone for example. You can find something truly special there and they combine scents that fit you and you special moment. You can be guaranteed that you’ll be a unique bride. So no need to worry about wearing the same scent as one of your guests.

4. What will he wear?

Quite an important question. What scent will he wear? It shouldn’t be giving off a whole different feeling than yours. You don’t have to wear the same scent of course, dear God no, but the scents should complement each other.

5. Look at your bridal bouquet

It’s pretty normal to match your scent to your bridal bouquet. For example, you can look at your bouquet, pick a flower and use that as a main ingredient. A good perfumer will know which scents go well with it and which one will work best for you.
