5 hairstyles you’ve tried at least once in your life

Either they failed completely or they worked out just right

I hate seeing pictures from back in the day. My brows were as good as plucked off and I thought silver-colored eye shadow was a good idea. And then there’s my hair, which has had dozens of makeovers. I’ve done the Rihanna red (a rinse, thank god), I’ve tried rocking a bob, A-line bangs, normal bangs, a mixture of both bangs and who knows what else. And besides the visits to the hairdresser, I also loved to play around with a curling wand, a crimper and curl-papers (hardly getting any sleep in the uncomfortable process). Anyway, I’m sure you’ve also tried the hairdo’s I’ve listed below.

Dyeing it

Seeing as it was incredibly cool to give your hair some color in high school, I decided to go for it as well. In hindsight, I’m so relieved my mom would only let me use a rinse and not a dye. I started with mahogany, which turned out red. So I turned into a ginger. This taught me what looks good on me (even though I failed once here) and found my favorite hairdo in the process of all the experimenting.

Bangs

It’s a love-hate thing, really. I’m such a fan, but bangs just aren’t really useful. But I’m sure that everyone has tried this at least once. And you should, because it can also look really good on you.

“Oh, the tears. I wept like a baby”

Curling it

We’ve used our curling wands one too many times. Even had some crazy nights sleeping with curling papers in. Which resulted in you looking like you just woke up in the eighties with a bad perm, which you also forgot to brush out before heading out.

The bob

I remember it like it was yesterday. I went to the hairdresser to get a quick trim and I came home with a bob. A real bob. They hadn’t heard of the long bob at the time, so the bob was cut right above my earlobe. Oh, the tears. I wept like a baby. I ended up looking like a doll. The only upside was that I’ve mastered the art of bobby pinning and I know now that I’ll never get a bob cut ever again.

Highlights

Highlights are really pretty and give you the sun-kissed look nowadays (hairdressers have learned their lesson), but back in the day you ended up with big streaks on your head. Seriously. Big white locks of hair without any subtlety or flow with your own hair color. None at all. And we’ve learned from it. Those streaks were very cool back then (especially combined with a nude lip and heavily drawn brows, plucked in the thinnest possible line), but now you’re better off with the opposite result.
