5 things people with tattoos want to say to you
We’ve got a few people walking around the office decked out in some tattoos. But you’d be surprised to know that the majority of us are clean slates. In the age group 18-31, 31% of the people have tattoos. Yet for some people, it’s still a concept they don’t fully grasp. There are stores which demand you to cover up your tattoos and the older generation link tattoos to wild lifestyles. So for anyone with a bit of tattoo phobia, here are six things everyone with tattoos wants to say to you.
it is not a topic of discussion
Guilty. We used to have a colleague who had gotten his lovers face tattooed onto his arm. After six weeks of dating. I think we brought this up at least once a week during lunch. We would ask him things like what he would do if the two of them ever broke up. And if he ever thought about what it would look like once he’s at a retirement home with that huge face on his arm. Pretty impolite on our end to be honest. To each their own you know. It’s not like we have to explain to people why we decide not to have any tattoos?
don’t ask if there is a story behind it
Normally, there’s quite some time before someone finally decides to officially get tattooed. Perhaps something incredibly special happened, but for some reason, a lot of people get inked after having gone through an emotional period of time. If I were you, I’d wait a bit before asking someone if there is a story behind a tattoo. The fact that it is visible doesn’t mean you can bring it up whenever you please.
not every tattoo was applied at the break of dawn
It always makes me laugh when I hear stories about how people decide to get tattooed just for the heck of it. Like Cara and Jourdan. It nearly makes you envious of that fact that they live very much in the moment without contemplating whether or not whatever you got tattooed on is going to suit you for the rest of your life.
people with tattoos are not friendly
That’s what my grandmother always thought. She referred to them as ‘people from a different origin,’ but that’s seriously something you should never say. I’d link it more to creativity. Go backstage during fashion week. You’re going to feel so bare compared to all the hair and make up artists.
yes, they look good when you’re older too
Another one of those discussion topics. “But when you’re old you’re going to be stuck with an faded print on your arm.” So? Who cares? Then you can just head to the parlor and get a touch up. And who knows, maybe by that time the faded look will be very à la mode.
For any of you who might be wondering if I have any tattoos, I don’t.
