Cara's 17 tattoos
and what they mean
Two years ago Cara was still an untouched blank slate, but as soon as the first needle grazed her skin, she became addicted. In a mere two years this girl has collected a total of 17 unwashable illustrations on her lean little frame, all which are as kooky and comical as Cara herself. Here they are.
You might know this one from her ad for Tag Heuer. Cara’s zodiac sign is a Lion and growing up she already felt like the king of the jungle. She had this tat tattooed on at Bang Bang in New York, where she would soon become a regular.
For those who didn’t know this yet, Cara’s middle name is Jocelyn. And so her second tattoo are her initials CJD and can be found on her wrist. Also perfectly applied by her friends at Bang Bang.
Since Cara often felt like a product while she was busy modeling, (read all about the reasons you shouldn’t want to be a model here), more or less a doll without any substance, she had Made In England tattooed onto the sole of her foot.
Even mother dearest (who by the way is a very interesting figure on her own; daughter of a billionaire, best friends with Sarah, you know, Andrew Ferguson’s ex and a woman with a history of alcohol and drug abuse) was also immortalized on Cara’s bicep: Pandora. This tattoo was, you guessed it correctly, also applied at Bang Bang. Fun little fact, her friend Rita Ora was there with her when she got it done.
When Cara was traveling through South America she met tattoo artist Daniël Tucci and she gave him the freedom to tattoo whatever he wanted on her. She came back from her trip with a few Roman signs, a cross behind her ear and the number 12.
Maybe a little reference to the song Diamonds from her friend Rihanna?
Cara has the word silence tattooed onto her wrist to remind her that silence speaks when word’s can’t. Another Bang Bang of course.
It looks like it’s been drawn on with some kind of marker, but this too is completely permanent. I think this one is really cute, and I don’t say that too often about a tattoo.
The first time this tattoo was ever on display was on one of her many Instagram photo’s while she was on holiday on Barbados. Don’t Worry under one boob, and under the other: Be Happy.
What it means exactly, I’m not quite sure, but I’m sure Cara will explain it all in due time. The first time it was spotted was at her sister Poppy’s wedding.
No, this isn’t a reference to her bra size; it permanently solidifies her friendship with fellow model and friend Jourdan Dunn. Dunn Delevingne. Dunn has this tattoo on exactly the same spot; the hip.
Breath Deep. Found on Cara’s bicep. To remind her to stay calm in her hectic life.
This one can be found on the side of her finger and is very subtle and very pretty.
Because Cara thinks about bacon every day, wait no scratch that, she thinks about bacon the entire time. Hence getting the word tattooed onto the sole of her left foot.
Underneath her rib cage you can find the Coat of Arms.
Remember tattoo number 1, the Lion? Well this fun little creature can be found on her other hand at exactly the same spot.
