THINGS WE LOVE
– JAN is the best –
I may work for an online magazine but printed magazines still have my love. I have to divide that love among a few favorites, but I am most in love with JAN, my boyfriend for ten years. JAN magazine is celebrating its 10th anniversary today, and all those editions that have been made are still neatly stacked at my home. You understand, that is a high stack. A high stack that I lovingly flip through, because all the shoots are ridiculously beautiful and all the stories incredibly special.
Marie-Nanette Schaepman is the founding editor of JAN Magazine. Ten years ago, she had the idea to create a magazine for thirty-somethings looking for happiness without losing authenticity. Sometimes it rains, but the sun always shines. All those ideas gathered in the beautiful magazine that I have been very fond of for ten years. For the last two years, she has been Esther Goedegebuure at the helm, and she has no shortage of taste. Together with her lovely team, she knows how to sniff out all the best things and shape them beautifully.
At I flip through many magazines tear out a few pages and DO NOT READ A WORD, but with JAN it’s different. those When JAN arrives in my mailbox, it is first and foremost a huge moment of relaxation, and secondly an overload of inspiration. It starts with all the.
celebrities who get to travel to their favorite locations. And then Rog or Eric van den Elsen captures them in the most beautiful way. If I then flip a bit further back for a nice fashion series by Charissa Hogerheijde, Marjolein Mos, or Linda Gumus Gerritsen, who have dressed the coolest models in the coolest locations in the coolest outfits. And Esme's beauty section is always nice and inspiring, and I am also very fond of her new little column in the magazine. So here’s to you, dear editors; not only my love for your productions but also my love for youébecause I feel like I have built a very stylish bond with you. Here sounds a shameless fan.Enough about the visuals. I seriously still read JAN. I flip through, tear out a few pages and do not read a word, but with JAN it’s different. Because the stories are breathtakingly impressive, inspiring, and special from the first letter to the last sentence. So yes, it’s quite a read. And, after the always fun editorials by Esther, I always start with the column by Suzanne Rethans. Snickering and beaming, because she always knows how to write everything so accurately. And now I really have a nice life, but after reading her columns, my life suddenly seems terribly boring. After the column, I quickly shuffle to the beautiful, portrait galleries.
and the personal stories, ending with the shopping pages. Because then JAN is done, I have to wait another month, but I have enough inspiration to keep myself entertained with online shopping for hours. You see, JAN enriches my life immensely. And I can't wait to see the next one lying in the mailbox. And the one after that and the one after that.
