the braid game

5 ways to upgrade your braid

The braid epidemic has made it’s way to our office. Whenever we’re out of inspiration, we braid. More often than not, we leave the office with a completely different hair style than the one we showed up with. Braids are very trendy and have flown over straight from the runway. So whenever you’re need of a little inspo, just grab your nearest colleague and give any of these looks a try.

1. Double trouble

If you thought rocking two braids was only for 12-year olds, think again. Alexa Chung revived these braids a couple of years back and they’ve been spotted on the runway ever since. To give it that royal look, attach the two braids at the bottom so that it becomes one ponytail. Feel free to spruce it up even more with accessories.

2. Put ‘em up

It looks easy. And it is. The trick is to fix your braid as straight down as possible, after which you pull out a few strands here and there to give it that undone look. Make sure to loosen that hair near the roots to complete the look you’re going for.

3. The headband

Antonio Marras sent his models out on the runway wearing a braid like a hair band. Might sound difficult, but all you need are some bobby pins to keep it sturdy and in place. Hervé Léger made the look look a little more arduous, but equally pretty. This is an ideal look if you want to hide your grown out bangs.

4.Multiple braids

This is the Alexa Chung 2.0: the 2016 edition. Don’t shy away from multiple braids, they’ve become completely acceptable. All you have to do is make sure you work with all of your hair, and not just certain sections. Twist it at the top and make it playful – the perfect look for this summers festival season.

5. On top

We spotted a couple shows with models featuring very slim braids braided tightly down their center parts or perhaps even slanted if you want to be more daring. Simply put, the complete opposite of the undone braid; you have to be very precise and tightness is key.
