6 LESSONS IN STYLE FROM LIZZY VAN DER LIGT
Lizzy is the best dressed woman in the Netherlands. Well, that’s what I think. And apparently I’m not the only one because she has 175.000 faithful followers on Instagram. Lizzy has the build of a Parisienne, which I sometimes find a little too understated and, excusez, ungroomed.
I would label her clothing style more of a Milanese who grew up wanting to live in Brazil. It’s fun and cheerful, opposed to the perky Parisiennes, Lizzy doesn’t shy away from a logo left or right. Ready for her lessons in style? Saddle up, here they are.
1. Color
I’ve never spotted Lizzy in an all black outfit and this would make Anna Wintour very happy (check this to see why). When you see Lizzy, you see an explosion of cheerful colors. Don’t be surprised when you see her rocking red sweatpants, orange sneakers, a white seater with a banana print and a red bag. ‘Safe’ is boring.
2. Invest in eye catchers
The past few weeks I haven’t spotted Lizzy without her red Louis Vuitton. Or without her floral MiuMiu sunglasses, or her yellow Vuitton bag that she likes to match with a leopard printed jacket. No one was ever blown away by someone walking around with a navy blue bag. Take a moment to think about that.
3. Sneakers
By now we all know that fashion girls don’t have to go through life wearing heels. Lizzy struts the streets of Paris/London/Los Angeles on comfortable sneakers and MiuMiu ballet flats. Which I have now ordered. Because of Lizzy.
4. Small tattoos
I am completely tattooless and don’t plan on ever getting any, but Lizzy’s size zero tattoos really get me excited. Three dots, a small bow, a star. It wouldn’t surprise me if she had a small LV tattooed somewhere.
5. Red is always good
When in doubt, wear red. Best way to leave your mark.
6. Patches and stickers
Because there is no one else like you, make your clothing unique too. Cover your jacket with patches. Or your pants. And hey, while you’re at it, why not cover your suitcase with stickers too.
