6 reasons why asparagus is good for you

I’ve already indulged in my first plate of asparagus this season. They were divine, as always. Combined with smoked salmon, a hard boiled egg and a bit of melted butter. The first thing I always do is mash everything up, toss it together, add some nutmeg and I’m ready to attack. Might not be extremely charming, but oh well. Did you know that asparagus is extremely healthy and great for your body? Here’s why:

  • They help cure hangovers. Research done by The Journal of Food Science informed us that the minerals and amino acids in asparagus can ease a hangover. Plus they also protect your liver cells from toxins from alcohol.
  • Asparagus is filled with vitamin E. This is the vitamin that helps build up your immune system.
  • Asparagus are diuretic and therefore great for your kidneys.
  • Asparagus might make your urine smell a little funky. Hmm.
  • The heads of the asparagus are filled with vitamin B. Good to hear because that’s my favorite part!
  • Another vitamin that can be found is vitamin A which is great for your skin. It helps repair damaged skin and slow down the aging process.
  • Compared to other vegetables, asparagus as a lot of vitamin E, a fat soluble that helps the production of red blood cells, helps maintain your muscles and other tissue in your body and your immune system. Vitamin E is an antioxidant. Asparagus also contains other antioxidants that inhibit inflammatory reactions.

And there you have it. Now you know what to eat for dinner this evening. Or tomorrow.
