a woman and her insecurities

There is absolutely no other creature on the planet that is more insecure than the female. Too fat, too skinny, too short, too long – there’s alway something they can come up with. The British Daily Mail decided to dig a bit deeper into the subject and asked 2000 about their personal insecurities and how often they think about them in a day.

The result? “The average woman critiques herself about 8 times a day.” Eight times guys, eight times. I think that’s a lot. And probably not even necessary. But you try telling these women that. It comes as no surprise that the things they are more critical about are all linked to their appearance. Weight, hair, clothes, their jobs. They also think it’s important to find the perfect balance between work and their private lives, they don’t think they earn enough money and some don’t even think they’ve got the right job.

The life of a female hasn’t always been easy, but usually it’s the female herself who is to blame. Our standards are set so high the we feel like we need to be able to do EVERYTHING. It hurts my feminist heart but unfortunately the amount of women combining CEO jobs and a successful home life are still horribly outnumbered.

And then there’s appearance. I mean, who can blame us for being insecure when it comes to our bodies. Dad bod’s for guys are the newest classical ideal of beauty, but women with mom bod’s are portrayed as less sexy. Apparently nowadays we’re supposed to have Romee Strijd’s waist line, Kim Kardashians ass and Scarlett Johansson’s boobs. And so on…

After a bit of self reflection I too have realized that I have some insecurities of my own. Since I’m currently frolicking around a tropical paradise, I find myself decked out in my bikini about 60% of the day but that doesn’t mean I am 100% comfortable. Especially not when I’m walking or sitting. I used to think I was ’too fat’ but luckily I’m no longer in that mindset. I’m not fat, but that doesn’t mean my body is rock solid either. When I stand upright, all is fine, but when I decided to run a quick sprint, I feel things bouncing all over the place. Luckily no one around here knows me, but you probably won’t ever find me walking around my bikini in my home town.

It’s stupid really, but that’s just the way it is. Look, there will come a day that you’ll forget about this childish mentality. At least I hope so. Being a woman; we sure can’t make it easier, but we can definitely make it more fun.
