AHAAA SO THIS IS WHY YOU’RE ALWAYS YAWNING IN THE GYM

You’re at the gym and you suddenly find yourself being incapable of containing your yawning. Don’t worry, it’s nothing weird. You’re not the only one. Yawning while working out isn’t because you think it’s boring. And it definitely doesn’t mean that you should go home and crawl into bed or head on over to a bar. Yawning while working out is common. In fact, it’s completely normal.

It’s a common fact that we yawn the most when we wake up and before we go to bed. And occasionally being able to spot your neighbors uvula happens a lot too. But why we do it? We have yet to find someone who’s got the answer.

Yawning while working out is common.

The thing that’s new to me is the fact that in the winter we yawn more than we do in the summer. And yawning often also goes hand in hand with exertion. Better yet, psychologist Andrew Gallup says that we yawn so that our bodies are capable of sticking to a certain body temperature. When the temperature in your brain rises because of a tough workout, you start sweating (sometimes in places you didn’t even know existed). Because of the release of sweat, you body gets the chance to cool down. Yawning betters your heart rate and blood supply, which controls the temperature in the brain. The colder air is inhaled while you yawn, the better the temperature is regulated.

Glad I finally know the answer as to why the ladies in the first row of my spinning classes always had their mouths open… And I always thought it was because my classes were dull.
