DRINKING WHISKY IS THE ULTIMATE FORM OF#GOALS

I can’t remember when I drank my first glass of whisky. I know, I know, it would’ve been incredibly poetic if I started out with this opener, but it’s the truth and I’m a big fan of the truth. Unless we’re talking about uncomfortable subjects like my weight or the credit on my bank account, but those are two very different subjects.  What it comes down to is this: I’ve been drinking whisky ever since my first glass of whisky. Or whiskey. Because you write the one that comes from Canada and Scotland with a –y only, while the Irish and American ones are written with –ey.

Anyway, I’m a fan. I must admit, it takes some time to get used to because it’s really strong. But just so you know, whisky is delicious. And cinematic. Especially when you’re drinking it from a heavy, crystal glass (tumbler). Seriously, those glasses make the whole thing so incredibly chic.*

My favorite whisky? Well, preferably a Scottish single malt (whisky from one distillery) with a smokey an/or medicinal taste. So as pure as possible. I don’t care that some people think I’m nuts and I also don’t care that some people think that whisky is an old, fat guy drink. I’ll be drinking whisky this summer and that’s that. I’ll drink it on a terrace, in a bar and at night on the beach near a bonfire.

“And correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you love to buy a refined piece every now and then?”

There are some that say whisky is a thing. At least it is for people with a distinct taste. People (woman, man, young, old, but what is old) that like good food, coffee, red wine and leather bags. Those that can estimate the value of a Gucci shoe. Those that love a nice watch. A classy hotel. And correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you love to buy a refined piece every now and then? Look, whisky might not become the new gin and tonic, but is a THING in the making. In all kinds of shapes and sizes I might add. At the moment, there are more and more cocktails being made with the American Rye whiskey or Scottish whisky, but whisky in its purest form is also rising.

Mark my words. This summer – ok, let’s give it some time – this fall you’ll be mesmerized about how good that whisky you’re drinking is. And saying out loud how Renske was right on the money, of course.

* You’re actually only supposed to use tumblers for whiskey on the rocks. And you should use a Glencairn glass (the one with a little pouch on it) for the ultimate tasting experience. But appearance also matters for me. And you should save some money for shopping.
