INCASE YOU HAPPEN TO BE GOING TO NEW YORK…
May-Britt’s culinary checklist
Suddenly I’m heading to New York. Well, suddenly, suddenly. Unexpectedly we came across two cheap tickets. My man had to work but smart as he is, planned this trip to fall around the weekend. We board our flight at 17.30, champagne in hand, and fly back on Sunday night.
Call me crazy, but (contrary to our girl Kiki) I enjoy flying. A few mandatory hours offline, watching movies, deleting a dozen photos from my phone and digging through my airplane food with my fork.
“They claim that you die after 54 minutes, but after just six sessions you’ll see a result. “
And so we’re headed to New York and I have a long list of things I want to do. Workout at Physique 57, that’s where all the rich (and thin) women of the Upper East Side get their daily exercise. They claim that you die after 54 minutes, but after just six sessions you’ll see a result.
But the one thing we’ll be doing the most of is eating. I’m sharing my favorite restaurants and my future favorites that I discovered through thorough research conducted with a couple of New Yorkers.
1. Freemans
This is a hidden restaurant that you’re more likely to come across is a David Lynch movie than in real life. I believe it was once a British storage place for hunting gear (that would explain the taxidermy…) This makes you feel as though you’re at a unique location that nobody has ever heard about and that’s what New Yorkers love. As do I.
2. Woondee Siam
Nothing fancy shmancy here, but definitely the best Asian food for an affordable price. If you need to use the restroom, you have go through the kitchen and if you want wine, you bring your own bottle. Ideal after a night that involved a little too much of this ???? and not too much of that ????? because it’s healthy, perfect for a hangover and cheap.
“I happen to have heard that the cocktails are to die for.”
3. Milo’s
A New Yorker told me that this is an insanely good Italian but apparently it’s a Greek. I forgive her, those crazy New Yorkers also think that the Netherlands is the capital of Denmark. Greek or not, it’s got a really great menu with a lot of fresh fish and ceviches and they like the concept of shared dining. Sounds perfect for lunch…
4. Chef’s Club
Okay, I saw the words shaved artichoke & mushroom pieta with black truffle, mozzarella, Parmesan and basil and they had me.
5. Jack’s Wife Freda
The name alone is reason for you to want to go, am I right? And if the name doesn’t trigger you, the rest of the place will because it’s extremely good for your Instagram. The only point of improvement is that they don’t have their menu on their website but it’s okay, I forgive them. I’m going nonetheless. I happen to have heard that the cocktails are to die for.
6. Madame Geneva
This is a cocktail bar located close to Bleecker Street (my favorite), it’s cozy and dark and the Zagat restaurant guide crowned it as the ‘number 1 bar’. So I’m going. And if I show up at the office on Monday with a hangover, you’ll know why.
