THE 8 LESSONS IN STYLE I LEARNED FROM THE MET GALA IN NEW YORK

Incase you somehow miraculously missed it, last Monday night the annual Met Gala took place and boy oh boy, it’s always a hoot rating all the outfits the celebs were decked out in. Plus, there’s always a ton of new things for you to learn fashion and trend wise. I definitely experienced 8 new awakenings in the world of fashion. And I’m pleased, to say the least.

1. When I saw Dakota Johnson’s dress, I knew it: you don’t have to transform into some weird alien the moment the theme Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology is thrown you way. Lesson I learned: when you’ve got a hard theme like this, just mix and match. Keep it simple and chic. Take Dakota’s Gucci dress for example. A dress covered in stars from the galaxy with a boho edge. I’m a fan.

“Putting on something nice is one thing, but you have to be able to pull it off”

2. A glitzy party on the menu? When the stress starts kicking in, perhaps it’s best to check out Sienna Miller. I hope May-Britt doesn’t read this, because she wasn’t a fan, but uhm, I would just like to point out that I wouldn’t say no to a dress like this.

3. A big fat diamond ring on your finger is your miracle worker. Take newlywed Kate Upton as an example. The ring helps you rock your outfit, it adds that extra bit of chicness that never hurts anybody. Wow, the benefits of marriage, cause Kate’s no stranger to tacky choices in the past. Maybe I should get married too.

4. Don’t shy away from Gothic. I mean; how cool are Léa Seydoux in Louis Vuitton and Chloë Sevigny in Simone Rocha?

5. Okay, so some might say Alexa Chung’s suit was a safe choice, but now all I can think of is owning a pajama suit with a low V-neck cut, sequins and a seemingly nonchalant cord wrapped around my waist. Sorry I exist.

6. It might be a little hard, but I want to be Lily-Rose Depp at the Met Gala. THIS is how you pull of Chanel couture. The embroidery in her dress is so uncanny and refined. And I’ve never seen a cooler, fashionable, creative and luxurious bomber jacket. But the most important lesson in style from this look is that this look depends entirely on your attitude and the way you pose. In other words: putting on something nice is one thing, but you have to be able to pull it off. Might sound like gibberish, but believe me, you’ll know when you know.

7. The only man who will ever be able to pull of to arms of steel with Swarovski crystals is Iron Man Zayn Malik.

8. The laser cut is hot and happening and very ’techy’, but only when it’s done by Versace. And when you have Kendall Jenner’s physique. I definitely have to return my cut out suit tomorrow.
