THE BIGGEST WEDDING TRENDS
This is what you need to know
Are you getting married? Then Pinterest is most likely a walhalla of inspiration for you. I’m not getting married, but even I have a board filled with photos of fairytale dresses, fabulous decorations, impressive invites and photo poses for the ultimate I’ll-never-regret-this-photo album. And yes, I know you’re only supposed to get married once, but I feel like you should do it at least ten times, especially when you see how much inspo there is on Pinterest. And Pinterest introduced us to the wedding trends of this year. Now you know what you’ve got to plan.
Alternative seating
All your family and friends neatly lined up in a row? And then get stuck in the situation that that aunt of yours who you don’t really like is seated in the front row rather than your best friend, but you can’t just put her somewhere else because your parents won’t approve. Then try this alternative seating chart: put all the chairs into one big circle and get married in the middle of it. This way all the guests will have a great view and you’ll be the center of attention.
The new location
Getting married on an estate? According to Pinterest, it’s very passé. Starting last year there has been a 25% increase in people looking up fairytale-esque back yards, striking areas in the woods or other locations that aren’t so standard opposed to where most weddings take place.
Your friend as the official
A wedding officiant? It all sounds so official, but a lot of people prefer having their friends officiate the ceremony. It’s much more personal and then they can incorporate a story about how the two of you met.
Non-technology ceremonies
“We really want to see your faces, not your devices.” I think this is extremely clever. Of course having people Instagram your wedding would be nice, but isn’t it much nicer to have people enjoy the moment? So the trend is to have a wedding without all the digital shenanigans and ask everyone to leave their phones at home. Old school weddings so to speak.
Mix & match bridesmaids
The American feeling of having all the bridesmaids standing in a row in the same dress is another outdated thing. It’s far more fun if you’ve got everyone wearing a different dress. As long as none of them wear white.
Food trucks
Couples on a budget look for original ideas, and a food truck is one of them. The classic ‘sit down dinner’ is making way for people to stand in a line to go and get their food. Then they sit down at a picnic table to eat it. Sorta like a festival, yes.
Bits & bites
So if you opt for the food truck instead of a sit down dinner, then I can imagine somewhere later on in the evening you’ll be in the mood for snacks. Do it. Pizza’s, fries, chips. Just bring them out.
‘Honey fund’
Salt and pepper shakers have been passé for a while now, and the thing that is up and coming are honey funds. It’s a box for you to put money into so that the love bugs can enjoy their honeymoon. A little extra so to speak.
