the fifteen things i thought when i turned 35
Yes, I’m shocked too that I’m 35. But what I want to say is: old is the new young. Thirty is the new twenty. And if you don’t agree with me then you might as well go and read something else. Anyways, here are fifteen things that went through my head when I turned 35.
1. I now officially have the right to buy a designer bag. Because once you’re finally really grown up (and admit it, once you’re 35 there’s no way back) you just need a new designer bag. As a reward for all the hard work from the past few years so to speak.
2. But HOW am I going to do it? I’m broke. Which is pretty sad when you’re 35.
3. Should I throw a birthday party and then ask for money so I can buy my bag? Hmm. There’s just one problem. The last time I celebrated my birthday I also asked for money, but it was for a tattoo, and to be honest, I never got the tattoo. I let the money disappear into thin air. Or better put: I drank all of it. What if they ask me about the tattoo?
4. I still have a fear of the road. Look, when I was young I was still able to hide behind the fact that I was young and inexperienced, but now I’ve turned into a pathetic case of anxiety disorder.
5. Are you still able to pull of a skirt when you’re 35? They say you can’t.
6. Doesn’t matter. I’m too fat for a skirt anyway. Let’s just drop it all together.
7. I should just invest in jewelry and bags and shoes because those always fit. Even when you’ve passed 35. This brings me back to being broke.
”Not just the occasional job of putting words on a (n online) piece of paper, but something like a communication specialist or working at a bank”
8. Maybe I need a proper job. Not just the occasional job of putting words on a (n online) piece of paper, but something like a communication specialist or working at a bank. I heard the rates are really high.
9. But I don’t have any experience with people working in banks.
10. But I do think you have to be quick when you make a career switch at or after the age of 35.
11. Oh well. Money isn’t everything. At least I’ve learnt one thing in life so far. And your career isn’t everything either. No, it’s about the people around you who you care about and love, the people you do fun things with and experience happy moments with. And: it’s the inside that counts.
12. Oh, man, how WISE do I sound? Perhaps I have an old soul? Do they have tests for that?
13. I could really use a personal trainer by the way. I don’t want to be chubby when I hit the forties.
14. I really need to start reading more too. All I do is hang out on Facebook and I look like an idiot every time I’m at events with well-read people. Seriously, well-read people are suddenly appearing everywhere I go.
15. Okay, time to set up a Facebook event of myself. I’ll just ask for money. You need to be able to stick up for yourself once you’ve hit 35.
