THE NEW IBIZA IS IN PORTUGAL AND GOES BY THE NAME COMPORTA
It’s true! The new Ibiza can be found in Portugal. Believe me, as much as you might still be hating on Portugal for winning the European Cup this past weekend, but back to Comporta. It’s the new Ibiza. Admitted, it’s not an island but you want to go there anyway. Immediately.
Comporta is an incredibly beautiful and somewhat still undiscovered area close to Lisbon. The area in a nutshell: sultry, summery, flamingo’s, rice fields, beaches, beautiful pine trees, cork oaks, the prettiest houses, hotels, restaurants and people. But the most important part of it all might be the seventies vibe of the area. Nothing is overdone, everything is pure, extensive, beautiful, sunny and calm.
”Nothing is overdone, everything is pure, extensive, beautiful, sunny and calm”
Still prefer to go to Spain? Formentera is Ibiza’s hip little sister.
Anyways, Comporta really is the ideal destination for you and your boy – but works for families too. It’s what we like to call ‘hidden chic’. It’s not a place to go out and party. This place is all about food, drinks, luxurious shops, lounging out at the beach or on a terrace in a divine hotel or house. You can compare it to what Ibiza was like back in the sixties and seventies. Want to drop by? All I have to say is: great plan.
Here are three tips on where to spend the night. Side note: might want to start saving up a little.
1. Hotel/restaurant Sublime Comporta
An absolute oasis. Because: a super deluxe country house retreat close to the Herdade de Comporta vineyard. The rooms are impeccable, the interior deserves a prize and the wine is godlike. It’s impossible to take a bad photo here because, without overreacting, every hour here is magic hour.
2. Cabanas No Rio
Two beautiful old fisherman huts that have been restored (and are far more than just fisherman huts nowadays). You’ll find the cabanas located by the Sado river and they’re very luxurious and comfortable. This is where you’re going to recharge. And when I say recharge, I don’t mean your cell phone but yourself.
3. Or you could rent a pretty country house
Not in the mood to stay at a hotel or a fisherman’s hut? Then book a stay at one of the beautiful homes in the area. My personal preference is the super cool family home: Portugal Modern. The styling is on point if you ask me. So good in fact that you’re going to want to restyle your entire home. Book at your own risk so to speak.
