UPGRADE YOUR WARDROBE IN 6 EASY STEPS
I know: it’s freezing outside, but I can’t help but have summer on my mind. I had our cleaner drop by an extra day this week to prep our house for the spring and I just left a message for our gardener to schedule in his biannual visits to our house.
And now it’s time for the closet. All our winter gear was moved to our attic (when I still thought spring weather was about to kick in). My summer wardrobe is within reach, now all my closet needs is a bit of spring cleaning and this is how I do it.
1. Everything out
I repeat: everything out. Throw all your clothes onto your bed, line up all your shoes and get your hands wet with a sponge and some soap. You’ll be surprised to know how much dust you’ll find.
2. The selection
Go through everything piece by piece and remember the last time you wore it and what the likelihood is of you wearing it sometime soon. I divide everything into two boxes. One is a box of things I plan on selling, and the other is a box of things I’m not quite sure about yet. The things you want to keep will make their way straight to your closet anyway.
3. Be critical
Of course my closet is only consists of white wooden hangers from Ikea. But every now and then I have to deal with some intruders. Especially those bigger more luxurious kind that take up so much precious space in your closet. Get rid of ‘em.
4. Tights in boxes
Ikea has those great round boxes in various different sizes where you can store your underwear, bathing suits, tights and other less photogenic items of clothing. Pile them up in your closet and just wait and see how happy you’ll be when you open your closet in the morning.

5. A scent for in your closet
The good old herbs in cotton bags is something you definitely know of. I’m a sucker for the ones from Zwitsal and if I come across any of those old fashioned lavender bags, I buy it immediately. But scented candles in your closet are a great option too. The scent will spread without even having to light it (who would want to anyways when it’s surrounded by all your favorite clothing). Something else that always gets me excited (I know, I know, nothing superficial is weird to me) are Diptyque’s ‘scented ovals’. It’s one of those oval shaped objects that look like candle wax which smell godlike. You could even just put a bar of soap somewhere in your closet or get one of those great room sprays. Plenty of options out there.
6. Use a color and theme scheme
My closet goes from light to dark and I try to stick to a theme as much as I can too. All my party dresses have been placed together, as well as my skirts and my pants. This gives me the perfect overview as I know exactly where I need to be when I need something.
